Deuteronomy 8:3 And he humbled you and let you hunger and fed you with manna, which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, that he might make you know that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.

SOUL FOOD LUNCH

Once school starts (if it hasn't already) will you pack a lunch for your child(ren)? If you do pack a lunch every day, then doubtless you are careful about what you give them to eat. It's important that they have nutritious, good quality food if they are to be happy and healthy.

It's also important that you see that they have food for their souls. The LORD God reminded His people on the cusp of entering the Promised Land about the lesson they were to have learned in the wilderness. Namely, that God's provision for a human's physical needs issues from the same source as food for the soul: the Word of God. We human beings are two parts -- soul and body -- and we need to see that both are fed.

So this year when you pack lunches, print up some Bible passages on slips of paper and put them in with the peanut butter and jelly. If you don't pack a lunch, send them with your children each day. Then don't just assume they will read them, ask them about their passage of the day. Talk about what the Promises of God mean to them and in so doing you will provide food for their souls.

Don't forget! Along with the bitterness of the law, see that they have the sweet message that Jesus is their one Savior from sin, their guaranteed entrance into the Father's house.
