MAY was a great month at NZPS. Dancer-choreographer and 2016 Lavinia Winter Fellow Sofia Perez undertook her 3-week residency and was inspired by the movements of the animals at Pukaha. She also collaborated with filmmaker Adam Von Penfold and illustrator Talysha Bujold-Abu.
A range of writers, installation artists, eco-artists, illustrators. printmakers, painters, muralists, storytellers, sculptors and ceramic artists in Australia, Canada, England, Hong Kong, India, USA and New Zealand applied for the
2016 Emerging Artist Fellowship. We have awarded the 2-week Fellowship to Nick Davies, a physical performer based in Wellington.
Former NZPS artists-in-residence Denise Batchelor exhibited just one breath at Aratoi Museum; Tina Butterfield exhbited 'humilitas' at Heart of Arts, and Justine Fletcher has been exhibiting 'Project 607' at Heart of Arts.
On May 16, MP Alistair Scott visited our centre to become more familiar with the facility. On May 23, NZPS made a presentation to the Pukaha Mount Bruce Board (Bob Francis, Chair). On May 23, NZPS sought funds from the Masterton Creative Communities Sheme for costs towards 2 workshops and an exhibition and were awarded $400; on the same evening, we also attended the Kokomai thank-you event at The White Swan.
NZPS was involved in two Yarns in Barns events: Tales from the Bush, held at our centre, with storyteller-authors Kay Flavell and Gareth Winter, and (in June) 2016 Ema Saiko Poetry Fellow Ya-wen Ho and 2009 Lavinia Winter Fellow Lynley Edmeades joined Poems on the Vine at Gladstone Vineyard.
