Farm Fresh, May 2024

In this Issue:

Dear friends,
Amid the Covid shutdown, I was visited by travel TV producer Robert Rose, who just happened to grow up in a town just east of us. While in the area visiting his family, he paid us a visit and put together a nice 30-minute show about the community.

Raw Travel can be seen on broadcast TV stations around the country, around the world, and on some airline flights. Unfortunately, you cannot find it on any streaming services. However, he has produced some short trailers to promote the show that you can watch on YouTube, giving you a glimpse of what is on the episode and some valuable insight into the community.

I continue to be inspired and in awe of the good work taking place by Farm Alumni all over the world. Read about the incredible story of Anthony Stewart, a reminder that every one of us has the capcity to make a difference... and living proof that we can be of service at every stage of life!

Peace, Douglas

A School in Ghana
Anthony's Story:
On my 71st birthday, I asked myself the question, "How am I going to spend this last part of my journey? I’m in good health and have so much to offer. I love education and empowering kids to read. Why not go to a place where help is needed?"

Four years ago on February 2, 2020, I boarded a plane to Ghana West Africa. My initial plan was to go for 4 months. It has now been 4 1/2 years.

My goal has been to bring some hope and joy to the students. I have been making a difference, I’m a piece of the puzzle. I feel grateful, useful, and filled with joy.

I have become Head School Master and chairman of 4 other schools and have worked on many projects. My most amazing accomplishment has been to rebuild an Orphanage School that was destroyed by a storm.
We have been able to complete 6 out of 8 classrooms. This has included:
  • Repainting rooms
  • Replacing doors and windows
  • Taking students on educational field trips
  • A scholarship program that provides students with educational supplies.
My foundation, The Determiners, was called by the Head School Master at the Ghana Police Basic School with a request to purchase ceiling fans for the classrooms. Upon our first visit, I was in disbelief at the number of students in each classroom, up to 70 kids in a crowded, poorly ventilated, room. Most had no, or at most, one fan. During the day, classroom temperatures can reach 90 degrees.
We have been blessed with several donations that have allowed us to purchase and install 20 ceiling fans in the high school. But we still need at least 30 more to cover all of the classes. Because of the number of students, it can take 3 fans to make a room comfortable.
Family and friends, my capacity to do more is enormous. Please keep us in your prayers.

As of September, I have been In-Stooled as King of Education for the Cape Coast Region, I was given the name Nana Kwesi Acomapa 1st of Education. Translation Big Heart
