ISS Germany opens new HQ dedicated to developing the workplace of the future

The new activity-based workspace serves as a lab, where ISS will test new ways of working before passing on innovations to customers, experimenting with features such as face recognition and artificial intelligence.

At the end of April, ISS Facility Services Holding GmbH opened its new headquarters in Düsseldorf, called "The Lab." The offices will serve as a laboratory for the 200 head office employees, partners and customers to use and develop cutting-edge workspace and service solutions.

Driven by Internet of Things technology and artificial intelligence, services at the new head office aim to create greater consistency and transparency around the workplace experience, including through digital car park management, face recognition at the entrance, digitally supported catering applications and concierge services. The technology supports services delivered with the human touch that ISS employees are specially trained to provide.

In the new activity-based workplace, employees will be able to choose their workspaces based on what projects they are working on and whom they are working with. Several work areas provide creative spaces for exchanging of ideas and knowledge sharing. Additionally, the head office includes the “ISS College for Advanced Property Management” focused on future-of-work trainings.

Alexander Granderath, Country Manager of ISS Germany, said: “By taking this step we are actively building the workplace of the future and pursuing what we call ‘new ways of working.’ We are very proud and eager to invite as many people as possible to learn and explore with us what the future of property and workplace management really looks like, and how this industry will change in the next few years.”

The new head office in ISS Germany reflects ISS’ global strategy to develop new, innovative ways of working and improving workplace experiences. ISS is for instance currently working with IBM to introduce Internet of Things (IoT) technology combined with sensors and automation in 25,000 buildings around the world.

Martin Gaarn Thomsen, ISS Group COO, says: “In our pursuit of excellence and to enhance our value proposition and profitability, we continuously invest in innovation and technology. Combining our deep knowledge of the individual customer’s purpose with the new opportunities from technology, we can improve the customer experience while at the same time being cost efficient.”
