Wednesday 14 August
Apologies for the short notice of cancellation of yesterday’s meeting. However, we weren’t advised until late in the afternoon that the police were expecting a serious disturbance in the Stoke Croft area during the evening. It was felt that it was better to be safe than sorry, so the last-minute decision was made to err on the side of caution and cancel the meeting.

Next week we welcome Ian Bateman FRPS MPAGB AV-AFIAP APAGB to BPS, when he will be presenting his talk about his Audio-Visual Journey. Ian says the following about his talk:

I’ve been making AV sequences for over forty years, ever since I joined my first camera club, Cam & Dursley – now called Tyndale Photography Club. I was an early convert to digital, becoming the first person to be awarded an FRPS and MPAGB with digitally projected sequences.
I am a current member of both the RPS and PAGB Distinction AV Panels, and my aim is to produce at least two new AVs each year. Tonight’s show will encompass a variety of sequences covering many different topics – from a beach in Devon to a Frankenstein museum in Bath! Along the way I’ll explain how I go about creating a sequence, and how music can add pace and atmosphere to enhance your images.

I’ll also show my most recent AV, which hopefully will be finished in time! This one recreates a Mediterranean voyage on the educational cruise ship SS Uganda, with a look at how one city has been frozen in time for the last fifty years.

Below are a few images to give you some idea as to what we can expect during the evening:

DI Group
DI meeting - Monday 12 August at 7.30pm – In the Clubroom also on zoom

Just a reminder, there is still time to get your images in.  Last month we enjoyed a wide variety of inspiring images and projects. Lots of food for thought!  It’s your images that make these evenings such a success so please keep sending them in.

These informal meetings are a great opportunity to share your work with other members or simply to gain some inspiration.

If you would like some advice, to share a project you have been working on, or simply want to share some of your images outside the competition environment, then please send your images to dig@bristolphoto.org.uk by email or WeTransfer ideally by 5.00pm on Saturday 10 August which will give me plenty of time to assemble the slideshow, if you need a little more time just let me know.

Please number your images in the order you would like them to be viewed and resize to the usual competition size, not essential but helps to keep the file sizes manageable.

Amateur Photographer Of The Year
A gentle reminder that the Amateur Photographer of the Year 2024, Round 4 is still open for entries (Theme - Landscapes). Rachel Domleo came 2nd in Round 3 (as reported in Issue 593), a success that has put her in joint 1st place overall and rocketed BPS into joint 2nd place in the overall club standings.

To enter, which is free (that'll appeal to some of the more careful among you), all you need to do is follow this link and use the entry code APOY76393955 - but you'll need to be quick as the closing date is 12 August.

It might be worth getting yourself ready for the next round, the theme being People when the opening date is 13 August. We have a plethora of "people" photographers in the Society, so let us see a nice big entry from BPS members.

Salon acceptances: Contrary to popular belief, I do not possess psychic powers and need you to tell me if you've had successes. If you want to blow your own trumpet (or someone else's), then this is the place to do it. Please let me know and I'll include details in a future issue.
