Hello Firstname

Wednesday 31 October
Our speaker next week is Harry Hook, film director and writer, who will be presenting his talk About Africa. Harry was brought up in East Africa and has returned throughout his film and television career to tell stories from Africa. He studied filmmaking at the National Film School.
His many credits include  Lord of the Flies(Columbia Pictures), Last of His Tribe, HBO (starring Jon Voight and Graham Greene), All for Love (set in the Napoleonic War, starring Jean Marc Barr, Miranda Richardson, Richard E Grant, Anna Friel and Jason Isaacs), The Many Lives of Albert Walker (a real life crime story of the Canadian con man and murderer, starring John Sinclair), Silent Witness (popular forensic science crime drama), The Tragedy of

Rudyard Kipling, The Heart of Thomas Hardy – an evocative film about the life and work of the celebrated writer and many more.

Holiday Let!
I don't normally allow the newsletter to be used as a "holiday lets" shop window, but felt that I could create an exception here. I have received the following from Margaret Collis:

Going cheap! 2-bedroom apartment in Haven Court, Little Haven just south of Broadhaven on the coast in Pembrokeshire (the nearest large town is Haverfordwest). Available from Sat, November 17-24. Price £100 for the week (cost of my exchange fee). There is also a cost of £35, payable on arrival to cover utilities. There are pubs in the area and the apartment has self-catering facilities and will be of a good standard.

Reason for relinquishing this is an eye appointment on 16 November which means crawling around beaches and cliffs is sadly not advisable! Anyone interested, please ring me on 01275 851159 or speak to me at club.

Nomad Print Boxes
Following our recent print box order from Nomad there is 1 Standard 21x17x4” print box with web handles available. The price of £22.45 (that includes a share of the carriage) is a significant saving. Anyone interested please contact me at g.m.stirrat@gmail.com

Mobile Phones
It is necessary to remind members again that they should switch their mobile phones either off or to silent during meetings. Please also note that it is extremely antisocial to use or view your phones during meetings, as the bright screen light is very distracting to anyone sitting around you; this is especially so during projected image evenings when the room is dark. Not to put too fine a point on it, if someone is playing with their phone near to you, it is a right pain in the proverbial!

Book Launch
Mike Hall has received the following from recent visitor to BPS, Brian Swinyard:
Dear Mike,
I have just written my first book Two Become One which is to be released on 28 October. It is a collaborative project (combining poetry and photography) with a Consultant Cancer Surgeon and we are using it to raise funds for Motor Neurone Disease Association and Sarcoma UK.
I thought you might be interested in the attached Press Release which may be of interest to your members.
Best wishes and regards,
Brian.

ITS NOT PARTICULARLY EASY FINDING "DATES FOR YOUR DIARY", SO I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE IT IF MEMBERS COULD LET ME KNOW OF ANY EVENTS, EXHIBITIONS OR PICTURE LOCATIONS THAT THEY THINK WOULD BE OF INTEREST. DATES AND WEB LINKS WOULD HELP.

Trumpet Blowers' Corner
Salon acceptances: BPS photographers are now achieving large numbers of salon acceptances and constraints on time and space mean we can't include them all. So please only advise of awards or other milestones.

Contrary to popular belief, I do not possess psychic powers and need you to tell me if you've had successes. If you want to blow your own trumpet (or someone else's), then this is the place to do it. Please let me know and I'll include details in a future issue.

Items For Sale
Please note, we can only carry adverts for items to sell if those items actually belong to the member advertising them.

If you have something photographic that you want to sell, let me have the details and I will circulate them to a captive audience of photographers through the Newsletter - send to the usual address.

Studio Bookings
Would all members please note: before you plan your shoot and book your model, you should check whether the studio/clubroom will be free. This can be done easily and at any time by viewing the Clubroom Bookings calendar in the Members' Area of the BPS Website. Bookings can (and must) be made by contacting Mike Bigger at bookings@bristolphoto.org.uk.
Log in details to the Members' Area are at the end of this newsletter.

Photographic Acronyms
For those of you who aren't sure what MPAGB, EFIAP/s and many more such seemingly random collections of letters mean, just click here to download the list.

Personal Detail Changes
Please don't forget that if you change your address (home or email), or gain additional photographic distinctions, it would be appreciated if you could let the Membership Secretary know so that she can keep her records up to date, this will also ensure that you continue to receive your newsletters - please email all changes to membership@bristolphoto.org.uk
The distinctions we have on record are those shown at the top of this newsletter, if they are wrong, please let Carol know.
