The Joys of Christmas…Decorations, celebrations,…..and Cookies!
We all make cookies this time of year, why not make a few extra dozen and give them to a local food bank or whatever program is in your town/city to share with those who have less.
I, for one, do not mind admitting that I become a child during this season. The lights, the magical under-current that trickles through every little movement-the Celebrations, church programs, town parades, the music and ringing of bells from Church bells to the Salvation Army bells, they each spark a treasured moment, a wish, a knowing….Be Joyful and spread it around Marcia Bryan said “ It is particularly Southern to go wild at Christmas.” ~This I can do~
Friends and family make the holidays special, when planning a get together-from a sit down dinner to a simple coffee and treat time…keep it simple...make ahead foods that only need a quick reheat, good breads, lots of fruit and chocolate, a collection of drinks, and presto, you are now free to spend your time and attention on your guest and not in the kitchen.
A Holiday Party Favorite
A favorite stand-by in this house for party time is a Fillet of Beef…roasted with coarse Peppercorns, rosemary, thyme and garlic. Sliced thin and served with this best ever Horseradish Sauce.
1 cup sour cream
Mix all ingredients together and mix well…chill and serve.
Can be made a day ahead.
TIP….keep a small pot on the stove top…add lemon and orange peels, cinnamon sticks, whole cloves, and a bay leaf…bring to a boil, reduce to a slow simmer and your home will always greet you and your guest with a delicious aroma.
The gardens at Sage Hill are all tucked in and totally into the long winter sleep. Rosemary, sage, and thyme are still thriving-and that is how it should be.
If you are local or in my town for other reasons…please come by for a visit.
