Isaiah 2:19-21 And people shall enter the caves of the rocks and the holes of the ground, from before the terror of the Lord, and from the splendor of his majesty, when he rises to terrify the earth. In that day mankind will cast away their idols of silver and their idols of gold, which they made for themselves to worship, to the moles and to the bats, to enter the caverns of the rocks and the clefts of the cliffs, from before the terror of the Lord, and from the splendor of his majesty, when he rises to terrify the earth.
NO NEED TO HIDE
In their terror, human beings will try to hide in caves and holes from the LORD. They will not turn to Him and seek mercy, for it is too late and none can hide from the sight of the LORD.
People will realize that their gods were "nothings." There will be no refuge, no protection. They will hide their "nothings" in holes in the ground, the places inhabited by moles or rats, or in caves, the dwelling place of bats. Such will be their terror, that they will even attempt to hide themselves.
This is what the Day of the LORD of Hosts will be for those who have rejected the LORD. This is the result of building upon man's wisdom and not the Word of the LORD. This is the consequence of despising the sacrifice of the Son of God, made for the sins of every human being in whom is the breath of life.
Those who glory in man will be humbled.
The Day of His Coming need not strike terror in our hearts. He comes again as our advocate, the one to speak for us and defend us, pleading His own blood. He comes again as our master, to take us to our eternal home. He tells us not to be afraid despite the terrors around us (Luke 21:25-28, NKJV): "And there will be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars; and on the earth distress of nations, with perplexity, the sea and the waves roaring; men's hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near."
Those who glory in the LORD will be exalted.
