Matthew 1:18a This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about: . . .

FROM HEAVEN ABOVE TO EARTH I COME (1-2)

1. Where do you get your news? From the internet? From television? From your friends? At Christmas, we all get our news from an angel. A being created by God to be His messenger, a “ministering spirit,” and “servant” of the Most High. The very one who came to the shepherds while they were keeping their flocks by night just outside Bethlehem. A news “flash” indeed!

Now they say you can't believe all the news you hear, and I'm a firm believer that you can't. But you can believe what an angel brings because it comes to you from heaven. This news is 100% reliable, and you don't ever have to doubt it. It is God's message, straight from Him to you, and it is good news for everyone. Good news in a world filled with bad. Sounds like just the thing we need, doesn't it?

“From heaven above to earth I come To bear good news to every home;
Glad tidings of great joy I bring, Whereof I now will say and sing:

2. What is this good news? A child has been born into your family. You have a brother. A new birth is always good news. Those little fingers and little toes--children are just about the greatest things that ever happen to us. The Child the angel announces is no exception. In fact this One, born of the virgin, means happiness not just to one family, but to all the families of the earth. It's not only Mary and Joseph who smile, but all nations shall be blessed!

“To you this night is born a child Of Mary, chosen virgin mild;
This little child, of lowly birth, Shall be the joy of all the earth.
