 JOAKIM ESKILDSEN - 2 day workshop -  12 and 13 of April 2014 - in Barcelona
 
 
Kominek Books and vêr Barcleona are very happy to invite you to the workshop held by
 
Joakim Eskildsen, supported by Misha Kominek, the editor of Kominek Books.
 
 
The workshop is of two days duration ( 2 x 8 hours ).
 
Minimum 8 participants , maximum 15 participants.
 
It is addressed to photographers and artist working in the field of photography.
 
The workshops focus will be:
 
- to re-define your ongoing photography project / book publication / working method -

 
1.first day
 
Presentation of photography projects and books by Joakim Eskildsen
 
Joakim will expose his works and books, bringing an insight view on his working methods.
He will give a special focus on production and concept questions of book making.

Questions regarding materials, papers, bindings, ways of printing, color separations etc.
can be discussed individually.

Joakim will also demonstrate how to make your own book dummy,
Here the aim is to get away from working only on the screen and get a better feeling
for the dimensions and materials of the real object.
 
Misha Kominek will introduce the books edited and published by Kominek Books
like Looking for Love by Alec Soth, SHEETS by Rinko Kawauchi or Series by Enrique Metinides.
 
Second part:
Presentation of the projects by each participant.
 
 
2.second day
 
The Participants will have the chance to work during the entire day on their
projects, there will be a critic held by Joakim Eskildsen and Misha Kominek
and also an open discussion in the group.
 
It is ment to find out the strong and weak points of each project and help improving it
on the way to a final stage.
 
By end of the class each of the participants will recive an individual exercise to do
after the 2 days workshop.
The outcome will be reviewed by the "Workshop Team" after a selected period of time.

Joakim Eskildsen was born in Copenhagen in 1971 where he trained with Royal Court photographer, Mrs. Rigmor Mydtskov. In 1994, he moved to Finland to learn the craft of photographic book making with Jyrki Parantainen and Pentti Sammallahti at the University of Art and Design in Helsinki, graduating with an MA degree in photography in 1998. He often collaborates on projects with writer Cia Rinne, and his publications include Nordic Signs (1995), Bluetide (1997), iChickenMoon (1999), which was awarded Best Foreign Title of 2000 in the Photo-Eye Books & Prints Annual Awards, the portfolio al-Madina (2002), which was made in collaboration with Kristoffer Albrecht and Pentti Sammallahti, and the book The Roma Journeys (Steidl 2007), which a.o. has been awarded with the Amilcare Ponchielli Award in 2008, Deutscher Fotobuchpreis (Gold) 2009, the Otto Pankok Promotion Prize, and the David Octavius Hill-medal awarded by Deutsche Fotografsche Akademie in 2009. Joakim lives and works in Berlin.
 
Misha Kominek studied photography at the IEFC Barcelona. He works since 1997 as a photographer
and curator. In 2007 the Kominek Gallery Berlin and Kominek Books were founded.
Since then Misha Kominek has showed and published works by Viviane Sassen, Rinko Kawauchi, 
Alec Soth, Enrique Metinides or Greg Girard.
Since 2012 Kominek Gallery Berlin is host to the Hartford Photo MFA.
