Extreme Fire Weather
The forecast into and during the weekend is for extremely hot
conditions which will present the possibility
of extreme fire weather.
There are no major fire incidences in the near vicinity at present,
however, Rural Fire Service members will be on alert in the event of an
incident starting.
Residents need to make sure they have put in place their FireWise
strategy. If you have not yet prepared a FireWise plan, now is the time
to do it. The FireWise kits are available from the Fire Station on
Scotland Island and brigade members will be able to assist in preparing
this plan, if needed.
Residents who own fire fighting pumps should make sure the pumps,
fittings and hoses are in operational order. But do not restrict
equipment to just one pump.
Make sure you have other tools, like a metal rake and buckets; prepare
your house making sure the gutters and surrounding areas are clear.
Also ensure you have the appropriate clothing in the event of a fire.
Useful information about being prepared for a fire incident is
available at www.rfs.nsw.gov.au or you could also visit
www.sirfb.org.au for information.
Be prepared and have a plan in place, and let precinct coordinators
know what your plans are.
If you think you see a fire, call 000 straight away.
And most importantly, stay cool and have a good weekend.
