SCOTLAND ISLAND POWER UPDATE

Ausgrid Update Wednesday 4 December

Power is being supplied to all homes on Scotland Island by mobile generators while significant emergency repairs are made to the high voltage cable that supplies the island.

Powered by mobile, temporary generators

The four mobile generators on the island are designed to safely supply your home's power needs.

We thank the community for your patience and cooperation as we work to return supply from the island's cable.

If you have any issues with your electric hot water system, please let us know on 13 13 88.

Work to connect additional fuel tanks to each of the generators could not be done today due to a problem with the crane.

Ausgrid is planning to do this tomorrow. A brief outage will be necessary to do the work safely.  A schedule for this work is included on the map attached.

We will regularly monitor fuel levels to ensure the generators continue to supply power during the emergency cable repairs.

Repairs to the high voltage cable

Specialist technicians from Ausgrid are working to replace a significant length of damaged 11,000 Volt cable.

This new section of cable needs to be joined to the existing cable on the island to the submarine cable that  is currently resting on the barge.

The joints are technically complex and will need to be constructed to work safely under water.

We currently expect to finish the work by the end of next week and will keep you informed of our progress.

Homes with three-phase connections

A small number of homes on the island have large appliances supplied by a three-phase connection, such as air conditioning.

Until emergency repairs to the island's under water cable have been completed, we will not be able to supply power to these appliances.

Ausgrid apologies in advance for the inconvenience this may cause.
