Dear Macro members,

I am thrilled to report our 2017 Student Honorarium winners!

Fountain Honorarium

Mary Norris is a Commercial Music major with an emphasis on vocal performance at University of South Carolina Upstate, and is a student of MACRO member Nolan Stoltz. She is involved in performances both on and off campus while earning a perfect GPA. She is among the best and most talented students in her class. She received a certificate of distinction of an original song at the National Association of Teachers of Singing. She also possess tremendous leadership skills and singlehandedly organized a concert of three student bands and two university ensembles to perform for the university student body in front of the dorm for which she is a Resident Assistant. We are very pleased to award the Fountain Honorarium to a student who is involved in such a wide range of performance activities.

Benward Honorarium

Nathaniel Galliher is a theory/composition major at Queens University of Charlotte and is a student of new MACRO member Zachariah Zubow. These two have created their own line for the MACRO record book in that this is the first time that our winner has been a student of another MACRO winner in the same year! Zachariah Zubow is our composer competition winner for this year, and will be presenting at our upcoming workshop in June.

Nathaniel is also a successful composer, and his works have already been selected for performance by the Arts at Queens board, and the Atlanta Guitar Guild. He is currently completing an internship in Recording Arts and Technology. His goal is to push the barriers on what can be done through composition. His most involved composition to date is a solo piano work on the assassination of Abraham Lincoln that combined encrypted messages and Morse code in relation to rhythm. His goal is to eventually earn a doctorate and join the academic community as a professor. He is known for his willingness to think outside of the box. Bruce Benward would be very pleased to have fellow outside of the box thinker as this year’s Benward Honoarium winner.

Congratulations to our winners!

Don't forget to submit your Musician's Workshop proposals and travel honorarium requests. Standard and Poster Presentation proposals are due by March 10, 2017!
