Next week is split into several parts. To begin the evening, we will be holding the 2025 BPS Annual General Meeting; this will be followed by a presentation of all the trophies and medals awarded to members throughout the 2024-25 BPS Competition year - please see list of recipients further down this newsletter.

PARTY TIME
After the AGM & presentations, we will be having a celebration of 10 years since we moved from our previous clubrooms in a Clifton basement to the wonderful, purpose-built clubrooms we now occupy. To help us celebrate, please bring a bottle/something to eat which will help create a bit of a party atmosphere. You only need to bring enough for one person as it will all be put onto one big feast table for all to graze. As this is a special celebration, it might be worth remembering our new Chairman's impassioned plea at the end of our last meeting, when he asked that we should try to avoid "brown food", for example the ubiquitous sausage rolls.

At a meeting of the Council this month the question of subscription rates was discussed in light of the finalised accounts for the year ended March 2025. At the ‘Extraordinary General Meeting’ of members (EGM) held in April 2024, it was agreed that subscriptions would increase by £20 annually for the ensuing four years; but that this was subject to annual review by the Council who could decide on a lesser increase for any of those years.
This year the Council has decided that the increase should be limited to £5 instead of the maximum £20. This will be applied to renewals starting on or after 01 August 2025.
It should be emphasised and understood that the option to increase subs again by £20 on 01 August 2026 and again by a further £20 in 2027 is still the default position, but that Council may decide on lower increases.
(By way of reminder, the Society’s financial position is laid out in the annual accounts within the Report of Council of Management for 2025 which has been circulated to all members (06 July Newsletter), and the ‘Financial Review’ within that.)
The new subscription rates are detailed below:
ANNUAL SUBSCRIPTION RATES
(Applicable to all subscriptions due on or after 01 August 2025)
- Normal subscription for each member - Current £85, new £90
- If the member is
the spouse or partner of a member living at the same address the normal
rate for the second member is - Current £67, new £72
- Member living more
than 50 miles from Bristol - Current £41, new £46
- Member aged 70
years and over with 20 years continuous membership - Current £41, new £46
- New member for one
three-month period only - Current £31, new £36
Would members aged 70 years and over and with 20 years continuous service, but who do not currently pay the reduced subscription rate (see above), please contact the Membership Secretary membership@bristolphoto.org.uk, who will be able to adjust your furure subscriptions.

Exciting Club Competition News |
The current method for submitting images for both projected and print images is now obsolete and is often error prone. Because of this, the Council took the decision in May to change the software used for submitting digital images for both print and projected image competitions to become one consistent process.
In time for next season’s competitions, we will be rolling out a new Web based system called PhotoEntry. This has many benefits including:
- Members can upload their images directly into currently running competitions instead of emailing images to the PDI competition secretary or uploading digital copies of Print images to a different folder.
- No more complicated PDI file naming conventions.
- Members receive instant feedback as to whether their image meets the technical requirements (such as image dimensions).
- Members will be able to upload and organise their entries for competitions throughout the season (as long as the competition is open to accept entries)
PhotoEntry is used by many other clubs and has a very good track record.
To implement this system, the competition rules will be reviewed and made clearer. In due course, the updated rules as well as instructions for submitting competition entries will be available on the BPS website and also from a link in PhotoEntry.
Please keep an eye out next week for further information on this.

The following from Jenny Wood:
I have an Epson Stylus Pro 3880 for sale, which prints up to A2 size, for a nominal cost of just £50. It is in very good condition with 5 out of 9 ink tanks more than half full (I’m a positive kind of person!}. See photo of levels below. The Epson Photo Black, Cyan and Vivid Magenta will need refills before it will work. It did have the usual switching blacks problem, which is why I stopped using it, but if you only print matte or have the skills to replace the diverter valve, it should be fine.

If you have any photographic items for sale, drop me a line and I'll include them in the next newsletter. Please make sure that you provide contact details, price and full description of the sale items (pictures always help).
