Native Plant Conservation Campaign Action Alert:  Take Action! Tell Congress to Resist Trump Budget Request, Fund Science
May 24, 2017

Yesterday, the Trump Administration released its budget request for fiscal year 2018. Most federal research programs are facing cuts on the order of 10 percent or more.

According to the journal Nature,
“The Trump budget would slash science programmes across government. Proposed cuts include
Those cuts, along with deep reductions in programmes for the poor, are balanced by a proposed 10% increase in military spending.”

Scientific societies, including the Ecological Society of America (ESA), the American Institute for Biological Sciences (AIBS) and the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB) have all expressed disappointment and concern about the budget request.

FASEB was "appalled" by the budget request. The ESA and others have already called on Congress to reject the Trump proposal and to instead “support scientific research and agency missions that provide clean air, healthy lands, and climate change information for the public”.
