Hello Firstname

Wednesday, 17 June
Next Wednesday, 17 June, we are being treated to an evening by our own Barry Mead, EFIAP/p FRPS MPAGB APAGB, when he will be giving us his talk called "Oh No! Not another evening with Barry Mead". The title might give you some idea what we are in for and Barry says that it will be a feast of images with a bias towards the Creative. Some older stuff which newer members won't have seen and all the recent stuff some of which nobody has seen. Including a brief step by step demonstration of how a creative image was constructed. Here is a little teaser of what you might expect to see:
The Reaper's Daughter

Digital Imaging Group
The monthly DI Group meeting is next Monday and as usual all members are welcome. The success of these evenings relies on members bringing along images, so if you have images that you can show that will be great. Images can be either prints or projected (please make sure that these are jpegs on a USB flashdrive). As some of you might know, Ashwin has been somewhat incapacitated of late having fallen off a ladder and being forced to get around on crutches, he says (therefore) that if members don't bring along images, he'll be hopping mad! Hopefully this disability won't affect the usual chocolate biscuit ration.

BPS Annual Photography Course
We need to get marketing started for the BPS Annual Photography Course - Please take a look at the course details and share information and links. You can either access the new Photography Course page directly or via our BPS Home page. More marketing in the form of printed flyers and Social Media will follow. We will be holding an Open Day at Unit 13 on Sunday 17th July 2pm - 4pm when we hope to promote both the course and BPS.
All course bookings will be processed by Derek Ripper (Course Co-Ordinator).
Please spread the word to anyone you think might be interested, you could even mention it (and provide the necessary links) on your Facebook page or any other social media pages you might have.

Studio Group
The next studio event will be on Tuesday 21 June at 7pm with a WW2 reenactor Jon, together with a makeup artist. The cost will be £25, please sign up using this link.

Studio Group Competition
The Studio Group Competition will be for images taken during any of the studio group meetings that have taken place between 1 June 2015 and 3 May 2016. Any member who has attended these sessions can submit up to four images which they should rank in order of their preference for being entered in the competition. The images should be sent in an email with Studio Competition in the subject line to: competitions@bristolphoto.org.uk by midnight on 24 June and should follow the normal rules for projected image competitions i.e.:

1. If you do not receive a Submission Report, this may mean your images have not been received.
2. Submissions can only be made by email and are not accepted on the night and cannot be made by CD, flash drive or memory stick.
3. Please be aware that the images are handled automatically once loaded into the competition software and the software will reject incorrect images (too large or wrong naming pattern)
4. Images must not be greater than 1400 pixels wide and 1050 pixels high - Note that Portrait format images must not be more than 1050 pixels high.
5. Save the images as a JPG using the highest quality. (Other file types such as TIFF or PSD will not be accepted).
6. The projector uses the sRGB colour space and hence you should save the images using the sRGB colour profile. Other profiles (such as Adobe98 or ProPhoto) may result in incorrect display of the image.
7. Name each file you enter in the following pattern.  Eg:- 01_Alexandrea_296S.jpg
    • 01, 02, 03, etc. to show order of preference.
    • Underscore (not a hyphen)
    • Title of the image (which can contain spaces and hyphens but must not contain underscore)
    • Underscore (not a hyphen)
    • Your Membership Number (shown on this newsletter) followed without a space by the letter S

The images will be shown randomly in pairs at the following AGM on the 6th July 2016 and all present will vote on them on a knockout basis until we have an overall winner who will be presented with the Studio Trophy.

If you’ve enjoyed a studio group meeting please support this new competition, it's a great chance both for the experienced members and for those new to competitions to try their hand.

Last Week's Speaker
When you consider that last Wednesday was the first time that our speaker for the evening, Diana Neale, had given such a talk to a camera club, it is easy to understand that she forgot to share her reading list with us. This list is one which she has found a constant source of inspiration (click on the author's name for more details):

Recommended for Inspiration:
Transformational Imagemaking: Handmade Photography since 1960 (2014) - Robert Hirsch
Altered Images: New Visionaries in 21st Century Photography (2011) - Compiled by RomanyWG
Uelsmann Untitled – A Retrospective (2014) - By Jerry Uelsmann

Greg Duncan in 3D!
The June 2016 issue of the PSA Journal has an article from Greg Duncan entitled 3D Without Glasses, in which Greg describes how to view printed 3D images without having to use special glasses. One of his images also features on the front cover.
Follow this link to download the Journal and see Greg's article (page 33) and his cover image is the one at the bottom.

Cups
This is a second call for cups to be returned. Would all holders of cups for the 2015-2016 season please return them to the clubrooms as soon as possible, so that they can be engraved before being presented at the AGM. Please make sure that they are polished before being returned.
