Dear MACRO Members,

Welcome to our new e-mail list! These e-mails will replace our former paper version of the MACRO Circular. All of the annual information about our organization, including workshop information, awards, honorariums and deadlines will now be delivered by e-mail. We can also still share teaching ideas and other topics of interest to members. Simply send them to me, Jamie Henke, and I will be happy to include them with our next message.

The MACRO Board has developed two new awards to honor the lifework of Bruce Benward, who also is the founder of our group.

BRUCE BENWARD THEORY/COMPOSITION STUDENT HONORARIUM
http://www.macromusic.org/applications/students.html
This $1,000 award is intended for outstanding music theory or composition students. Students who are interested in applying for the award should fill out the online application provided on the web site. A faculty member of MACRO who is familiar with the student's work should send a letter of support to Jamie Henke, MACRO Chair. The application deadline for this award is always March 1 of each year.

BRUCE BENWARD OUTSTANDING NEW MUSIC THEORY INSTRUCTOR HONORARIUM
http://www.macromusic.org/applications/teachingaward.html
Any MACRO member may nominate an outstanding teacher for this award using the online form provided at the site. The $1,000 award also includes a gift of a lifetime membership in MACRO. The nominating MACRO member will also provide a written description of one special teaching idea used by the winning instructor that will go out with one of our e-mails. New instructors must be nominated by February 1 to be considered for this year's award.

In addition to the Bruce Benward Honorariums, MACRO also sponsors the following:

TRAVEL HONORARIUMS
In response to our member needs, we have increased the various levels of travel support open to members for attending the annual workshop. To apply for travel honorariums, please visit:
http://www.macromusic.org/applications/travelreimbursement.html
Three levels of support are now available:
(1) $250 for those attending the workshop
(2) Up to $500 for those presenting a session at the workshop
(3) Up to $500 for those presenting a poster at the workshop

GENE BENWARD MEMORIAL TRAVEL HONORARIUM
Depending on demand, we will provide between 2-4 honorariums that cover complete expenses of those who present at the workshop and whose costs exceed $500.

Travel Honorariums are awarded on a first-come first-served basis, so if at all possible, requests for travel funds should be submitted by May 1, 2005.

ROBERT FOUNTAIN MEMORIAL STUDENT HONORARIUM
We have revised the guidelines for this student award. Please visit:
