Heartwarming Stories
*Almost crushed - now home safe!
Just moments before a junkyard employee sent a car to be crushed, he paused to remove the battery. As he popped open the hood, a bundle of fur jumped out and took a blind leap of faith into his arms.

*America's first cat-only vet:
Seen on Facebook. There is no link to "the rest of the story" here, but this tidbit is interesting:
"The first veterinarian in the US to dedicate their entire practice to the care of cats was Louis Camuti (1893-1981). Before his work in promoting cats as pets they were seen as nuisance or working animals only. He said his love of cats came from a childhood incident in which a cat warned him of leaking gas in his home."
His autobiography was called, “All My Patients Are Under The Bed.”
About the Newsletter
Although published the first of every month since 2005, the future of Kitty Times is uncertain at this time. Situations are changing and conditions dictate new approaches, including, possibly, retiring the pulblication this year at some point.
*An invitation to read (and subscribe if you like) to the Vital Animal Pack!
All about natural health care for your pets. My favorite "other" newsletter!

*Do you feed tuna to your cat?
A team of French researchers found that mercury levels in the fish have remained virtually unchanged, despite decades of global regulations that have curbed releases of the toxic metal.
That’s most likely because “legacy” mercury that has accumulated deep in the ocean is circulating into shallower depths where tuna feed, a new study suggests. The researchers predicted that even with the strictest mercury regulations, it would take another 10 to 25 years for concentrations to start falling in the ocean. Drops in mercury levels in tuna would follow only decades after that.

*Flea Repellent
Most flea repellent products are quite toxic. If you wish to use safer alternatives, here is a recipe for an all-natural and safe flea repellent formula:
Neem Oil
Neem is a carrier oil extracted from the "neem tree," (Azadirachta indica), native to Sri Lanka, Burma and India.
It is a powerul insecticide.
It has anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, antifungal, antihistamine, and
fever-reducing properties.
Flea Control Formula:
1/2 cup non-alcoholic witch hazel extract
1/4 cup liquid coconut oil
2 droppers (2 ml) of neem oil
10 drops (.5 ml) cedarwood essential oil
10 drops (.5ml) lavender essential oil
Spray or manually apply a small amount to your cat's fur as you would other products.
