Pittwater’s older residents are invited to participate in a host of interesting activities to celebrate Seniors Week 2007, from 11-18 March.


With a theme “Live Life”, the activities commence on Monday 12 March with an Introduction to the Internet at Mona Vale Library, where seniors can learn basic computer skills to enable them to “surf” the internet. Sessions will also be held on Tuesday 13, Wednesday 14 and Thursday 15 March. Book on 9970 1600.


The Frank McAskill Awards will be announced at a function on Tuesday 13 March, where an individual and organisation will be honoured for their work helping elderly residents in our peninsula communities.


Potential sailors are invited to “have a go” at a Sailability event at Rowland Reserve, Bayview, when seniors can enjoy a free morning of armchair sailing in dinghies, from 10am-2pm on Tuesday 13 March. Book with Jane Mulroney on 9970 1199.


Newport Bowling Club will give introductory lessons in lawn bowls from 2pm on Tuesday 13 March, at a cost of $5 per person. Book on 9999 1661.


Time slots are still available in the morning session of the Antique Identification and Evaluation Day on Thursday 15 March at Mona Vale Memorial Hall. History and assessment will be given on antique items and an Information Expo will provide information on local services and activities. Book with Jane Mulroney on 9970 1199.


A comedy routine – “Just Joking” with Jan and Judy – will cause some belly laughs at Avalon Library from 10.30-11.30am on Thursday 15 March, with morning tea provided. Book on 9918 3013.


Avalon Active Seniors Group, Narrabeen Seniors Club, The Wanderers, Avalon Computer Pals, the Carers’ Network and many more groups also invite seniors to join them in their interesting activities.


Pittwater Mayor, Cr Alex McTaggart, said: “Pittwater Council’s program for Seniors Week and beyond has so much to offer. I encourage all senior residents to help us celebrate and Live Life!”
