Next Wednesday we have a visit from Chris Palmer FRPS EFIAP DPAGB APAGB, from Amersham Photographic Society, who will be presenting his talk called The Prints and the Paper (I can guarantee that this won't be the last pun of the evening - ed). Chris is a Fotospeed lecturer and the talk promises to be an evening when we will be treated to some wonderful prints and plenty of explanations as to why certain papers were chosen for specific images. Chris is well-known on the club lecture circuit and is a well-known judge, both national and international; indeed, he judged the Open and Monochrome sections of this year's Bristol Salon.

The closing date for the Annual Print Competition is next Wednesday - 17 May; the judge for this year will be Jenny Hibbert MPAGB AFIAP AWPF from South Wales.
Full entry details can be found in your Members' Handbook (pp25 & 28), but if you have any queries or need labels for your prints, I'm sure that David Alderson will be only too pleased to help - email him at printcompetitions@bristolphoto.org.uk.
Entries should be put in the box at the front of the meeting room. |
Following the recent visit to BPS by Viveca Koh, there was mention of a workshop later in the year. This is now definite (subject to numbers) and will take place a little later in the year, probably late Summer/early Autumn. The workshop will be a one day event and will focus on Using Layers and Textures in Photoshop; the cost will be £75 per head. There are just a few places left, so if you are interested, please contact Derwood Pamphilon as soon as you can - either by email: derwood1004@gmail.com or phone: 07545 848919. You can read full details of the workshop by following this link. |
Some of you may have noticed the rather snazzy black tiled upstands that have appeared on the walls behind the two shelves either side of the tea/coffee servery; these have been put in by Mike Bigger as part of the ongoing programme of improvements at Unit 13. You may also have noticed an improvement in the quality of the projected images on Wednesday evenings, this is as a result of a new projector lamp being purchased and installed (300 quid, seems like daylight robbery for a little lamp!), so the projector should be good for another few years.
We have now been at the new premises for two years and hopefully all those little things that we missed when the original major works were carried out prior to us moving in have now been completed. However, those of us who were in the team responsible for seeing the project through were probably all a bit too close to the project to catch everything that needed doing, so if you think of anything that we have missed or have possibly got wrong, do let us know and maybe (no promises!) we'll get round to doing them. Emails to unit13@bristolphoto.org.uk |

Roger Mayne - The Photographers' Gallery. This major exhibition is the first since 1999 to show the iconic work of British photographer Roger Mayne (1929-2014). It includes his pioneering photographs of 1950s and early 1960s community life in London’s Southam Street. www.thephotographersgallery.org.uk

ITS NOT PARTICULARLY EASY FINDING "DATES FOR YOUR DIARY", SO I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE IT IF MEMBERS COULD LET ME KNOW OF ANY EVENTS, EXHIBITIONS OR PICTURE LOCATIONS THAT THEY THINK WOULD BE OF INTEREST. DATES AND WEB LINKS WOULD HELP.

Well done to Derwood Pamphilon who recently submitted a panel of prints to the RPS for consideration for the award of an ARPS distinction. We are pleased to hear that the panel has been recommended for acceptance and that, subject to final ratification, Derwood has joined the select band of BPS members who can put ARPS after their name. |
Salon acceptances: BPS photographers are now achieving large numbers
of salon acceptances and constraints on time and space mean we can't
include them all. So please only advise of awards or other
milestones.
Contrary to popular belief, I do not possess psychic powers and need you to tell me if you've had successes. If you want to blow your own trumpet (or someone else's), then this is the place to do it. Please let me know and I'll include details in a future issue.
