Thank you to all social workers who participated in the recent elections by registering to vote, helping others register to vote, working on or supporting a campaign, voting, working at polls, and other activities. On Election Day, November 3, we published this article on self-care during times of limbo. Yes, as counting continues, winners have been determined or projected in most races and transition plans are being made. Some races (such as two U.S. Senate races in Georgia) will require runoff elections. Media sources have called the presidential race for former Vice President Joe Biden as the winner for President-Elect and Sen. Kamala Harris for Vice President-Elect. Still, until results are certified and Inauguration Day occurs, that state of limbo continues. These tips can help you get through that "in-between" time of anticipation about what is to come in the days, weeks, and years ahead.
It's November now, but Social Work Month (March) will be here before you know it! NASW has announced the 2021 theme: Social Workers Are Essential. Watch for The New Social Worker Social Work Month Project, coming soon!

ASWB is seeking qualified social workers to write
questions for the licensing exams used in the United States and Canada.
Deadline for applications is December 31, 2020.
Practicing social workers—item writers—write all the questions on the
ASWB social work licensing exams. These writers are selected for their
social work expertise and balanced to reflect diversity in practice
area, geography, and demographics. Item writers
work on a contract basis and are paid $1,500 for 30 questions approved
for review by the ASWB Examination Committee. ASWB needs social workers
from all categories of licensure with a variety of backgrounds in
education and experience.

Reimagining Policing: Strategies for Community Reinvestment
A new NASW Social Justice Brief, “Reimagining Policing:
Strategies for Community Reinvestment,” is a social work resource that
identifies and discusses national models and innovative ideas to
transform policing to meet the needs of our increasingly
diverse nation and end racism in policing. The brief also discusses the
growing “police abolition” movement and reasons for it to be considered.
Touro College Receives "Social Work School of the Year" for New York City
Touro College Graduate School of Social Work (GSSW)
was honored
as “Social Work School of the Year” by the National Association of
Social Workers-New York City Chapter at the organization’s 13th annual Leadership Awards Gala.
Touro
is the first social work school to receive the award, created to
acknowledge institutions that educate their members and serve as a
foundation of the profession.
The inaugural award went to Touro for its leadership and contributions
in building the profession. Specifically, it acknowledges the school’s
commitment to social justice through teaching, advocacy, and clinical
excellence.
More than 200 guests attended the virtual event - “20 to 20 and Beyond” -
celebrating social workers’ achievements, commitment to social justice,
and the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment, guaranteeing women’s constitutional right to vote.
Write for THE NEW SOCIAL WORKER
I am seeking a limited number of articles for THE NEW SOCIAL WORKER website and magazine. Is there an issue that you are passionate about that corresponds with an upcoming “awareness” month, week, or day; holiday; or time of year/season? Or an issue you have experienced as a social worker or social work student that you would like to share with peers? These are good places to start to identify a topic for a timely article for our website.
We are seeking articles on social work career development, field placement issues, and fields of practice.
Our style is conversational and educational, and web articles typically run 500-750 words. Feature articles typically run 1,250-1,500 words. We want positive articles that social workers can use to help them advance in their careers.
I also welcome submissions of poetry, photographs, illustrations, artwork, videos, audio, and other creative work depicting social work and related topics.
Submit articles to Linda Grobman with a subject line that says “Submission—(insert title or topic of submission).” Attach your submission as a Word file. Please include in this file: title of submission, your name as you want it to appear with your article, body of your submission, a brief bio about yourself. I will then review your submission and let you know if I need anything else and/or whether it is accepted for publication.
