Scotland Island - Western Shores - Mackeral Beach

Notices for Offshore Residents of Pittwater, Australia
July 2009

On Saturday, 11th July, a tribute was paid by residents of Scotland Island, Western Foreshores and others who travelled great distances to honour the memory of Lewis Sparks.  The huge gathering silently acknowledged the friendship shared with this gentle, kindly man.  Peter and Kerry Scott’s home was decorated with beautiful flowers, and their garden was set up to seat visitors, who overflowed into all three levels of their home.  Master of Ceremonies was Lewis’ cousin who introduced the speakers led by Lewis’ brother, then two school friends, Fabia’s Father, Fabia’s daughter, and finally the lady herself.   Friends each received a photographic record bearing words, later read by Fabia’s daughter:
I’ll love you, dear, I’ll love you
Till China and Africa meet,
And the river jumps over the mountain
And the salmon sing in the street,
I’ll love you till the ocean
Is folded and hung up to dry
And the seven stars go squawking
Like geese about the sky.
Lewis’ love of music was noted, especially Gilbert and Sullivan, and a local trio rendered a splendid encore.

Peter and Kerry invited all guests to a delicious lunch – and as Lewis would have expected, numerous drinks and fond remembrances.  In a long life of attending sorrowful functions, this Scotland Island tribute shone, for me,  like a beacon with love, respect and admiration.

Thank you Peter, Kerry and all their helpers.

Climate Change and Infrastructure Summit
29 July 2009

Dear Colleague,

Recent announcements by the Australian Government on infrastructure investment have coincided with significant weather events across the country. Bushfires and heat stress in the south and heavy rainfall and flooding on the east coast are all indications of things to come under climate change. These events have caused tens of millions of dollars in damage to National, State and Local infrastructure. As infrastructure forms the foundation of our economy it is imperative that we manage the impacts from climate change.

We are convening a rapid response invitation only expert summit to address the implications of climate change to the future of infrastructure risk and effective insurance in Australia. As climate change science and regulatory actions are moving rapidly Climate Risk and partners are pleased to announce the implementation of these Rapid Response summits, which will be convened periodically to quickly address pressing issues in climate change. Key learnings will be published for use by the private sector, government and academia.
