Luke 19:10 The Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.
LOST AND FOUND
Have you ever been lost, or in a real dangerous situation that you can't get out of on your own? I remember a news story of a young child not that long ago that had wandered away from home, and had fallen into a storm drain and wasn't able to get out. We may not be able to imagine what a terrible feeling that would be, to know that no one knows where you are, and that you can't get out on your own, but we are reminded that all of us are in such a situation because of our sin. In fact all people are in a much greater danger because the result of their being lost is not just physical death, but eternal death in hell!
Luke 19 records for us the familiar verses of Jesus meeting Zacchaeus. Zacchaeus was lost spiritually and was in need of someone to deliver him from his sin. Jesus knew that Zacchaeus was lost and He came seeking him, in order to save him from the inevitable spiritual death which would result if he were not found.
We may have a hard time comparing ourselves to Zacchaeus, but we were once in the same situation. Because of our sinful nature, none of us can say that we are better than Zacchaeus. Just like Zacchaeus we too were once lost, and we too have been found by Jesus. He came seeking us, He found us in our lost condition and sin, and He has saved us through His life and death. That was His reason in coming - to seek and to save the lost. Yes, we were lost, but now, by God's grace we have been found, and saved from certain death by Jesus!
