Stitchin’, Bitchin’ and Bringing You the Bargains

EXCLUSIVE STASH DISCOUNT VOUCHER... Sit-upon Winners!... Crochet Coral Reef... All the Fun of the Fair Sale

Sun-filled greetings to you

We hope that this newsletter finds you well, and that if you haven’t been enjoying strawberries and cream at Wimbledon, or music and mud at Glastonbury, that you have at least been getting your needles out in the sunshine and knitting in public, as we know you do so well.

The last few meetings have seen us at our favourite EV, eating as much meze as we can possibly fit in our bellies (and knitting, of course), and on the South Bank where we were feeling greedy and chose various spots to sit and knit in, as one was just not enough!

This week we bring you muchos savings with a generous discount voucher from Stash who are launching their new online shop. And a two-week sale at All the Fun of the Fair, giving you yet another good reason to expand that yarn collection of yours.

After the great success of the S&B Knit Crawl this month, we have made the tough decision of choosing the top three ‘Sit-Upons we challenged you to make for the day. We were hugely impressed by everyone’s efforts, especially in such a short space of time. You still managed to pull it off, with intricate cables, intarsia and embellishments galore. Here are the chosen three.

And we have to give a mention to Iris, who has worked so hard at her fabulous sit upon. Even though it wasn’t finished for the day we’re sure it will come in very useful!

To see the rest of the Sit-Upons and photos from the day, check out the S&B London Flickr group. Well done to everyone for their hard work!

Stitch and Sale

It’s yarnsalearama this week in London with John Lewis and Liberties sales. All the Fun of the Fair are also getting in on the discounting action and with 20% off from FRIDAY 27TH June until SUNDAY 13TH July.

They will also be showcasing some of their new, exciting items for this summer. New yarns include Adriafil yarns, some Lion Brand, Keep and Share's offcut yarns, and some good quality inexpensive basics.

They have replenished their vintage stock, and have lots more buttons in store.

For the wedding season they have enormous knitted wedding cakes, knitted flowers, and knitted champagne bottles. And for great crafty presents check out the 'I am sew cool' tote bags, pin cushions, custard cream and Lego brooches. Fair Trade knits are also on show.

If you can’t make it to the shop, fear not, the 20% discount is also available by mail order.

Stitch and Some Stuff from the Sea

We’ve always known that stitchers are perfectly capable of saving the planet one stitch at a time, and if you find yourself on the South Bank this month you can see crochet doing just that.

The Hyperbolic Crochet Coral Reef has been put together by The Crafts Council (and includes crochet marvels from the hooks of groups all over London, including some of our S&B Londoners)

The reef is fashioned from all sort of materials, all hooked together crochetwise in a direct response to the plight of coral reef from pollution and global warming. The reef is constantly updated by an ever-expanding group of participants from around the world. The project has been organised by the Los Angeles based Institute for Figuring.

You can see its underwater loveliness in the Royal Festival Hall and the Hayward Gallery on the South Bank until the 17th of August 2008.

You can also add your own coral to the ever-growing reef by emailing the IFF. There are some helpful hints on how to begin here.

Stitch and Stash Enlargement at Stash

Luxury yarn. Lovely, isn’t it? It comes in beautiful hand-dyed colours, it makes you weep with joy when you touch it, and owning it makes all your knitting friends jealous.

So why not expand your stash with the help of our friends at Stash Yarns in Putney?

Stash is launching its brand-spanking new online shop and is offering all S&B Londoners a 10% discount on luxury yarn. Use the voucher below to obtain your delicious discount. Do you need any more reason to indulge?! Happy shopping!

That’s about all the woolly goodness we have time for this week stitchers. We hope to see you at a meeting soon. And don’t forget, you can join us on Ravelry, where talk of the stitch (and other stuff) is always going on.
