Hello Firstname

Wednesday 16 May

Next Wednesday we welcome Spike and Penny Piddock from Dorchester CC who will be presenting their talk called Muck to Magic.

Spike and Penny are a husband and wife team from Dorchester Camera Club, they have a love of the sea, both above and below the surface and the peoples that live at its edge.
The evening will show images from some of the places they have visited including some of the beliefs and cultural differences. Spike is the half of the team that dives beneath the surface, whilst Penny is a "snorkeller; so whilst Spike is diving, and if there is nowhere for Penny to snorkel, she likes to explore and talk to the locals.........................hence the Magic that some of them still believe in. We will see from their visits real people off the tourist trail and often from places few people would ever go to if they read the Travel Advice.
The evening will be part print, part projected images and a bit of AV.

and finally - Penny's alter ego!

Digital Imaging Group
Next Monday, 14 May, is the monthly meeting of the DI Group. Ashwin is away in India again, so the evening will be run by Lee Spencer-Fleet, ably assisted by Mike Bigger. All members are welcome, even more so if they bring along images to show or discuss, or to ask for help with: images can be either prints or digital (jpeg on USB sticks only please).
Just in case you're worried about a possible lack of chocolate biscuits as Ashwin is away, you need worry no more - he's made sure that he's left a stash of goodies - and much more importantly, he's told Lee and Mike where they are!

Dates For Your Diary
Until 13 May
Brief Encounters by Mark Fairhust can be seen at the Goods Shed Tetbury (Gumstool Hill, Tetbury, GL8 8DG).
Photographer Mark Fairhurst began his career photographing inanimate objects, from jewellery to plugs, which were used in advertising. Seeing his work, someone told him that if you can make a plug look good, imagine what you can do for people.
It was this that sparked the idea of switching to portraiture and now an exhibition of his work is to be shown at Tetbury Goods Shed in Gloucestershire.
Fairhurst's pictures are usually taken on location and often he has little time to capture the image he wants.
Brief Encounters displays images taken on a one-to-one basis, often only with a short time to prepare the set on location.
"It's a challenge to create a relaxed atmosphere other than in a studio," says Fairhurst. "I would never have thought that I would be in front of so many famous people in my career."
He works in black and white taking inspiration from photographers such as Irving Penn, Jane Bown, David Bailey and Richard Avedon.

Trumpet Blowers' Corner
Salon acceptances: BPS photographers are now achieving large numbers of salon acceptances and constraints on time and space mean we can't include them all. So please only advise of awards or other milestones.

Contrary to popular belief, I do not possess psychic powers and need you to tell me if you've had successes. If you want to blow your own trumpet (or someone else's), then this is the place to do it. Please let me know and I'll include details in a future issue.
