Microtech Gefell were very pleased with the
decision of the renowned Frederyk Chopin Institute in Warsaw to use
Gefell M 950 microphones for classical music, including for this
year’s 17th Chopin competition.
The wide-cardioid M 950 is an excellent choice where an omni-directional microphone is unsuitable as this gives an excellent balance - having a lot of the characteristiccs of an omni, but with some directivity as well.
The competition, which has been held for
88 years and is one of the oldest piano competitions in the world, is
an exceptional national and international highlight for the world’s top
pianists.
The battle between the most brilliant pianists
of today was of enormous significance, both in Poland and
internationally. For three-and-a-half weeks, the works of Frédéric Chopin could be heard during the competition.
This year’s winner, Seong-Jin Cho of South
Korea, can look forward to worldwide recognition. Among previous
winners, who went on to achieve international renown, are virtuosos such
as Adam Harasiewicz, Maurizio Pollini, Martha Argerich, Krystian
Zimerman, Yundi Li and Rafal Blechacz.
