The owners: In 1991, David married the girl next door, Shirley, daughter to one of the area’s ranching families. Shirley’s mom had been David’s gardening mentor and had shared many of her heirloom plants, seeds, and numerous gardening tips. Mom’s greatest contribution to David’s life came, however, when she played matchmaker during one of her daughter’s trips to visit the family. Shirley was a physician, practicing in Boulder, Colorado, but was easily lured back home and has been helping David at Blue Lake Ranch ever since. Their daughter, Joan, was born in 1993 and now assists them in their efforts, overseeing events at the Ridgewood Event Center.
Blue Lake Ranch is currently serving a classic American breakfast in the dining room each morning with a variety of egg dishes, a fruit bowl containing an assortment of fruits and delicious vanilla yogurt, many types of breakfast meats as well as pastries and or bagels. This is a breakfast spread that can be enjoyed by all ages and dietary needs. They always have homemade Granola, and after one bite, you’ll be asking for the recipe. Other options include glorified corn flakes, fresh fruit and berries, dried fruits and nuts, yogurt, and almond and organic milk. Munch on homemade pastries, a variety of breads with our signature jams and honey. Sip fresh roasted coffee and a selection of tea and juices while enjoying the morning view!

“Muffins Are Magical!” at Blue Skies Inn - Oh, the morning magic of muffins!
Breakfast is what separates a REAL B&B from other lodging properties - even those that have bnb in their names when you look for them online.
You might wonder, “Hey, where’s the other “B”? It’s the second ” that defines us. If you are on vacation, do you really want to cook your own breakfast? Maybe instead you’d like to enjoy a breakfast delivered to the door our suite?
After baking half a million muffins in 28 years, the innkeepers Sally and Mike at Blue Skies Inn are still happy to hear that guests think that our muffins are magical. They are always part of a full hot breakfast!
Since Spring is a Magical Time of the Year, they would like to answer a few guests’ questions about muffin magic:
Q: How do guests get the muffins?
A: Muffins are delivered as room service to every guest door in the morning in a breakfast picnic basket full of munching goodness. Enjoy muffins in your private sitting room or in the gardens while listening to wildlife buzz and hum.
Q: Who delivers the muffins?
A: At this time of year, it’s the garden elves, sometimes gnomes - they take turns.
Q: What is in the muffin recipe?
A: Some of the ingredients are still Top Secret even after 28 years, but we will reveal almond flour, poppy seeds, freshly grated orange peel, plump blueberries, chocolate chips, coconut, cinnamon, sugar and spice, depending on the recipe each morning. Be assured, all muffins are freshly baked and still hot when delivered.
Q: Are the breakfast conditions safe for garden elves and gnomes?
A: The Magical Beings use embroidered Blue Skies Inn potholders so they don’t burn their tiny hands.
Q: What if I am not yet a Muffin Fan?
A: There is plenty to eat since breakfast includes fresh fruit, a hot egg dish, milk, juice and freshly brewed coffee - lots of it!
Q: May I have the recipe?
A: Yes, we are happy to share. However, muffins ALWAYS taste better if someone bakes them for you... and does the dishes. That is what B&B’s are all about!
