Hello Firstname

Wednesday, 9 December
Next week is Round 2 of the Print Competition which is being judged by Glyn Edmunds FRPS APAGB MFIAP. To get some idea of what Glyn likes I suggest that you look at his website www.glynedmundsphotography.co.uk

Bristol Salon of Photography - 2016
It's that time of the year again - As a member of BPS this is your chance to enter one of the world's leading international exhibitions for FREE; full details can be found by visiting the club website and following the links.
If you haven't entered an international before this is an ideal opportunity to dip your toe into the murky waters of international photography and without it costing you a penny (I can already see some members breathing a sigh of relief that they don't have to remember the combination to the lock on their wallets).
The closing date for free entry is January 23rd (after that, the full fee is applicable). Any queries, feel free to email me at chairman@bristolsalon.co.uk

Mentoring
The club is looking into the possibility of introducing a mentoring scheme for members interested in working towards photographic distinctions such as those of the RPS, PAGB or BPE - to decode these and another acronyms, follow this Link.

Such a scheme would complement the existing Print and Beyond the Wall groups by providing on-going one-to-one or small group support. Mentoring would be by members, for members and open to all, whether new to photography or more experienced, and whether recently joined, or longer-standing members who have hitherto lacked the confidence (or time) to take up the distinctions challenge.

Mentoring is well-established in some other clubs and would hopefully be a way, not only of improving members’ photographic skills, but also of making the club a more friendly, inclusive and mutually supportive place.

As a first step we need to gauge the level of interest in such a scheme. If you might consider becoming a mentee, please print and complete the short questionnaire attached to this newsletter.

Photographs on the Wall
You may have noticed that empty picture frames have been adorning the walls of the staircase & corridor for some weeks. These have now been filled with prints which are taken from the Society's permanent collection. Hopefully we will be able to change these pictures fairly regularly, but in the meantime enjoy some fine examples of past BPS work

PAGB eNews
There are two issues of the PAGB eNews to download this month, the first is a celebratory 150th edition which includes images by Keith Wood & Barry Mead. The second is an "extra" edition which contains PAGB distinction results and also, as I mentioned at our last Wednesday meeting, important news concerning FIAP distinction rules and the fact that FIAP have had a volte face about the recent draconian changes they made to the rules.
  • Download the 150th Celebratory edition here.
  • Download the "Extra" edition here.

Trumpet Blowers' Corner
Shaun Boycott-Taylor has just gained his DPAGB - well done you.

Contrary to popular belief, I do not possess psychic powers and need you to tell me if you've had successes. If you want to blow your own trumpet (or someone else's), then this is the place to do it. Please let me know and I'll include details in a future issue.
