LINOCUT WORKSHOP

A special Lino Cut workshop will be conducted by leading print artist and SI resident Jan Melville on:-

SUNDAY FEBRUARY 12TH 2006

10 am to 4 pm in the Community Hall

During the day, you will produce one small and one large linocut. You will hand print them with a Japanese baren on rice paper and other hand made papers. You’ll also make a print made that you will hand colour with water colours.

You will need to bring some simple art materials. Details will be given following enrolment.

Jan will be supplying black printing ink, rollers, rice paper, water colours, solvents and rags.

Jan will give an ‘artist’s talk’ on relief printmaking, and show examples of her own, and her students’, work in that medium.

Bring a plate of food to share for lunch. Tea and coffee supplied.

Hand printing by baren is a traditional method of printing. It enables the artist to print at home and is a more creative method, allowing more control of tonal areas, and is well suited to Japanese and hand made papers.

You need to bring a small and a large sketch that you wish to transfer to the linos. Alternatively, you can draw direct. The image can be very simple, and Jan will discuss ways of printing the image in a number of different ways.

The cost per person is $70 for the day. The fees must be paid before January 25th to ensure that the workshop can go ahead (cheque or cash direct to Jan at PO Box 128 Church Point 2105 or 82 Richard Rd.)

For bookings or questions, please ring Jan direct on 9999 5955, or Greg Roberts (9979 9599) or greg.roberts@exemail.com.au

Numbers are limited to 8-10 people.
