GRAN CANARIA TOUR & TRAIL SUPER-DURABLE MAP

Thanks to the extensive knowledge and gps records of ‘Rambling Roger’ (Google him, he likes it!) and his mates Isabelle and Dane, to be joined by Andrew this week, we are moving towards completing the new map of Gran Canaria. Hopefully we should finish the design by the end of January so that the printed version will be available by March.

Digital editions will also be available for 3G phone apps from Viewranger and MyTrails while we will be making the map available in our Tour & Trail Custom Maps series for Garmin users.

TOUR & TRAIL CUSTOM MAPS FOR GARMIN USERS

We’re moving quickly towards making all 11 Tour & Trail Maps available as Custom Maps that you can load into Garmin mapping gps units, view in Google Earth and use in Garmin Basecamp. 15 January is our target date for making each of the maps available as a secure digital download from our website. Priced at ₤5.99 each (Sierra de Aracena is ₤2.99) these maps represent exceptional value.

Already our ‘Tour & Trail Custom Maps compilation CD 2014’ is available through booksellers at ₤26.99 but before you rush off to order the CD we are making a special offer to everyone receiving our DWG eNews.

There was a minor error in our first CD print run, in being titled ‘Tour & Trail Garmin Custom Maps’. Realising our error, we produced a second CD with the correct title printed on it. These first print run CDs have the identical maps content to the ₤26.99 CD but we are offering this to you at just ₤12.00 post paid. We have set up a special pdf order form, for you to print off and mail to us, which can be found HERE.

Now, that’s Tour & Trail digital maps at only a ₤ each - and they’re on a CD with their waypoint files. You’ll never see prices like that ever again. We’re happy for you to pass this offer on to friends and mates as when these CDs are gone, they’re gone.
We’ll be back at Tennyson Close to mail out the CDs from early February.

WHERE ON EARTH’S THAT?

Now the days are lengthening, it’s just the right time to daydream about enjoying the great outdoors under a big blue sky, somewhere warm and inspiring – and then turn your daydreams into reality.

Many DWG maps and walking guides take you to well-known walking destinations, though some are a bit more obscure. Just in case you were wondering, here’s a quick guide to some of them:-

The Axarquia

Costa del Sol, anyone? If you turn your back on the sea and sun-loungers and look inland, there’s the unspoilt, wild and beautiful mountainous region of the Sierras de Tejeda, Almijara y Alhama , rich in history and wonderful old walking trails. Nearest airport with flights from the UK/Europe: Málaga, Spain. For more info click  HERE. To see the location on a map, look  HERE.

The Alpujarras

Another Spanish gem; walk amongst the dramatic mountains of the Sierra Nevada with tiny white Moorish villages nestling between them. It’s a world away from mass tourism. Nearest airports with flights from the UK/Europe: Granada, Almería. To find out more click HERE. To see a location map look HERE.

La Palma

One of the Canary Islands, spectacular La Palma is not nearly so well-known or visited as Tenerife, Lanzarote or Fuerteventura. It’s the steepest island in the world, has the deepest craters, volcanoes you can climb and wonderful paths and trails. You can fly direct from the UK to the island. There’s more info HERE. To see the location on a map, look HERE.

THE ART OF ORIGAMI (OR HOW TO FOLD YOUR MAP)

Fortunately, you don’t need to be an origamist to refold your Tour & Trail Map. We’re sure we are not alone in having wrestled with other maps which refuse to go back into the neat rectangle we bought them in. Tour & Trail Maps are not only highly-detailed, robust and accurate maps for adventurers; they offer stress-free map-folding, one more good reason for choosing Tour & Trail Maps. More about our maps and digital cartography HERE.

SOCIAL MEDIA, ANYONE?

We asked you a couple of years ago and found that most of you didn’t use the likes of Facebook or Twitter much, if at all. Neither did we then - now we’re finding them increasingly handy for getting useful info to you swiftly; for example, updates about routes that may have become impassable or have re-opened and for passing on other Walk! and Tour & Trail users’ advice. We do put this information on our website, or in these ENewsletters but you could get the info faster via Twitter or Facebook. For this reason, we ask that you consider joining us on Twitter and/or Facebook. Not only will you be able to see updates quickly; you can enquire, comment or add info of help to other DWG users.

If you’d like to be involved, please find us on Twitter  HERE.
