On Monday, November 27, six FHS students will travel to Orchard View High School. We are engaging in a student exchange that is designed to better each high school by comparing the climate, culture, and programming of the high schools. The OVHS students will be hosted by members of our Student Executive Leadership Committee. FHS will do this with a few schools in the greater West Michigan area. When the students return from OVHS, they will meet with me, Jeff Moon, and the counselors. We will review their day and look at what we learned from OVHS. After all exchanges are complete, we’ll reconvene with the travelers and the ELC to create some recommendations for FHS.

Baby Boy (TY) Wenk arrived on November 15 to the proud parents of Tim and Tressa Wenk (counselor). I’m not sure this is what they had in mind on opening day, but they did bring home a big one!

We are now fully into the Holiday Season. This is always a difficult time for FHS. We have to manage students who are rightfully excited about gifts, family, and fun as well as support those students who don’t have any of those things. Please remind your student that not everybody looks forward to the Holiday Season. For many students, it is a time of stress because they are facing a shortage of necessities. When school isn’t in session, heat, food, water, and electricity can be in short supply. We want to make sure that empathy is the most given gift this season. I’ll be reminding students of that more and more as we get closer to Christmas.

We continue to explore the idea of resilience as a high school. All students will see the following video before Thanksgiving Break: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bg_Q7KYWG1g

As always, if you ever have questions, please stop in or call. My door is always open.
