“The
dance is strong magic. The dance is a spirit. It turns the body to
liquid steel. It makes it vibrate like a guitar. The body can fly without wings. It can sing without voice. The dance is strong magic: The dance is life.”

Finally - the world's largest display of diversity, Dance Parade kicks off at 1pm THIS SATURDAY!!
For
many it will be the best day of the year--despite the rainy forecast.
Why? Because there are few places on earth where so many proudly express, through
movement, their freedom and artistry. Dance Parade serves to keep dance alive in New York City!
We've
had over two hundred photography requests! It's not because of our
Photo-Contest, although that is a good reason to bring your
camera--Photographers come because of the incredible energy we generate--for the big smiles, the color and diverse pageantry. We will shine bright even if it's a little
wet here and there.
If
you're a Mom in Texas and want to watch your Fightin' Aggie Wrangler in their Country Western dance on Broadway, catch a glimpse of Grand Marshals Garth Fagan, Kwikstep or Rokafella-- or if you're an uncle in Taiwan
watching your niece in the festival, you can watch on your Iphone or
Ipad with a free phone app!
But if you're in NYC, don't let
the excuse of some grey skies keep you away. Come out and join the fun
and bring home memories that'll last a lifetime.

|
|
How did you first find out about Dance Parade?
Four years ago, I was walking around the East Village and
became amazed at seeing this "dancing celebration" parading down
Broadway and across St. Mark's...And then a Brazilian dancer stepped out of her group, danced over to me, and gave me a kiss on the lips. It was a great welcome into the Dance Parade community... (And a great way to recruit volunteers.)
What is your current role in Dance Parade, Inc? Volunteer coordinator. (Also occasional designer). I also enjoy helping lovingly coordinate the vehicles and dancers on the day of.
What is your favorite style of dance to watch? to participate in? All of it really. But I have a special place in my heart for the Brazilian Samba. Me? I love freestyle dancing to soul and funk music, and capoeira.
