Wednesday 1 May
The start of May is the final round of the 2023-24 Print Competition, which is to be judged by Martin Cooper LRPS from Yate. Martin is a long-established judge in the WCPF and MCF regions, so we can expect a great evening, especially as we not only get to see who has won this round, but we find out who has won the overall title (in the various sections) for the season.

If you'd like to see some our judge's work, why not pop over to his website, which can be found by clicking here.

Subscription Changes
The EGM was successfully held this week, with 54 attendees in the clubrooms and 15 on Zoom.

Following a brief overview of the review results and discussion/questions with the members, a vote was taken regarding the two options proposed. The results were:

Option 1 – Raise the subscription fee for all members by £20, to take effect at each member's next renewal date.
Votes in favour: 63 (53 in clubrooms and 10 on Zoom).

Option 2 – Raise the subscription fees with immediate effect to £145 for full membership, £100 for distance and long-term members, and £135 each for joint members.
Votes in favour: 1 (clubrooms).

There were 5 abstentions all on Zoom.

Option 1 was duly adopted and will be implemented with immediate effect.

Competition Rule Changes
BPS Competition Information and Rules

With Council’s approval, we have tried to streamline and clarify the Competitions section on the website. Please take a look and let us know if there are still any aspects that are unclear. (These can be found under Competition Rules & Info in the Members' Area of the BPS website).

In terms of entry rules, there are just three changes. It’s important to take note of these because they apply to forthcoming competitions.
  1. The President’s Cup PDI panel competition – the previous year’s winner is not eligible to enter. (Under the old rules, winners from the past three years were excluded.)
  2. The Creative Competition aka the Bob Faris Trophy – the previous year’s winner is not eligible to enter. (Under the old rules, winners from the past two years were excluded.)
  3. The Creative Competition – you may now enter four images, in any permutation of prints and PDIs.

Droning On!
Those of us who turned up at the clubrooms at 6.30pm on Wednesday were treated to a flying display by John Hudson, when he demonstrated his drone and put it through its paces. Whilst aloft, it also took a few aerial shots of the clubrooms and the surrounding areas, five of which are reproduced below. Thank you, John for a great evening - this little portfolio just rounds it off nicely.

Graham Baines
We have learned of the death earlier this month of Graham Baines at the age of 99. Many of the longer serving members will remember Graham, who hadn't been a member for a couple of years, but prior to that had been a member for over 40 years, having joined in 1978.

His funeral is on Wednesday 15 May at 12 noon at Arnos Vale. If you would like more information, please contact Chereda Lippett, email clippett@outlook.com

Trumpet Blowers' Corner
Salon acceptances: Contrary to popular belief, I do not possess psychic powers and need you to tell me if you've had successes. If you want to blow your own trumpet (or someone else's), then this is the place to do it. Please let me know and I'll include details in a future issue.

IMPORTANT: Personal Detail Changes

The distinctions we have on record are those shown at the top of this newsletter, please remember, if you don't tell us we can't possibly know!
