Issue #231                                                                                                                     September 30, 2022

Hello & Welcome!
So you might remember from our last newsletter that we were looking forward to departing on a "Mystery Cruise" and now... thanks to the miracle of modern technology, we're communicating with you from somewhere in Europe, but we can't say where since this was wrotten in advance of our leaving and since our ports of call were a total mystery to us!
Have we had a good time? One thing's for sure... I will have had a great time if all I did was sit on the deck of that boat, or on our private porch enjoying the scenery or reading a book for 10 days, but I'll tell you more when I get home. Until then... enjoy todays issue of "Bag Making is FUN!"

"Eye Candy" for October 2022
It’s time for your monthly treat for the eyes & this month's selection of bags is truly amazing.
ALL of the bags pictured below have been shared recently on

(For LARGER images: Click on each individual pic)
Melissa Clubine was intimidated by the Walkabout Wallet pattern but never even cut her fabric. This summer she finally gave it a GO and LOVES her new wallet. She said once her cut pieces were in hand the instructions were suddenly SO clear! And didn't she do a fabulous job?

Alma Lou Annab calls this bag her "Guardian revival". Years ago she gifted one to her son's MIL (who is 90), and apparently it is now thread-bare so she made her this new one! Instead of the credit card feature though, she substituted a mesh glasses holder for her.

This is Dale Whyte's "Disney" Sling Along & she says she's getting better with each one she makes, adding  that she learned early on to NOT rush the process. And I'll bet she's attracting a lot of attention at the park when she's carrying this bag!

Jayne Griffith reported that this was her very first attempt at the Sling Along design and even though there were a few "oops" along the way, none of them were noteworthy. She loves her new bag and the Go-Go Compact is next on her to-do list!

Betty Henry said she hit a "little snag" in making her Sling Along but she simply posted a question in our FaceBook Sewing Group and was soon well on her way with these beautiful results!

Gail Wisun-Gooch was thrilled to have finished her Gemini FlightBag. She said that there were MANY distractions along the way but the finished result is beautiful! Gail also added a key ring & RFID blocking fabric for the credit card area!

Kris Hicks said she LOVES her DittyRoo. It's a little large for an everyday bag but GREAT when you need a little more room for water bottles, sunblock and the like! Kris is so happy with the result and can't wait to try making a few more SKD bags!

And here's Renee-Claude Pageau's 1st Sling Along. Renee bought the pattern and supplies from us at the AQS Paducah KY show and if I'm completely honest I'd have to say that I actually like the Skylines fabric in blue (as seen here) better than the original green we pictured on the pattern cover for this design!

Nancy Rosa says that lately most of her customers have been asking for their Sling Along to be made up with backpack straps instead of the one-arm sling strap and here is her most recent make!

And finally, Brigid Johnson made up this Side Slinger in fabric her sister gave her so she somehow feels she should gift it to her, but that the engineering on this pattern is "SO sublime" that she's keeping it for herself & making her another!

There are ways to make money but have a plan … from a marketing strategy to doing your research. Find out what the market is like for the product or service you are offering. How many other people are offering the same, or similar? Do they seem to be busy? How much do they charge? Some particularly profitable hobbies include making quality bespoke goods such as jewelry, wall hangings, buying and reselling vintage fashion, or services such as music or language tutoring and gardening.  {Click HERE to read more}

July 14, 2022 - BBC NEWS - Larry, chief mouser for the British cabinet office, has outlasted three prime ministers. While Prime Minister Boris Johnson is leaving 10 Downing Street, Larry has no plans to step down.
