WHALE WARS SOS: Sea Shepherd Flagship Held for Ransom

$1,412,000.00 for the Steve Irwin

The flagship vessel of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society (SSCS) featured on Animal Planet's hit show WHALE WARS, the Steve Irwin is being held by the United Kingdom for $1,411,692.87. It has become widely known for leading the fleet on mother nature's side and ramming ships involved in illegal whaling and fishing operations in international waters everywhere.

"Our vessel has been detained by the United Kingdom courts because of a civil lawsuit brought against Sea Shepherd by a Maltese company: Fish and Fish Limited (F & F)," said Captain Paul Watson, Founder of the SSCS.

"Last month, the Steve Irwin rescued endangered bluefin tuna from F & F nets," he continued. They are claiming damages. We believe these fish were caught illegally - after the season closed, without an inspector on board, and without any legal paperwork for their catch."

The lawsuit gives SSCS the opportunity to expose what they allege are illegal activities by F & F and plan to aggressively defend the case on this basis.

Unless the organization immediately posts a bond for USD$1,411,692.87, the
Steve Irwin will be held or possibly sold.

The
Steve Irwin must sail immediately to protect endangered pilot whales in the Faeroe Islands as part of the country's annual "grind," or the luring of hundreds if not thousands of pilot whales into a cove for slaughter.

When that mission is complete, the group sails onto the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary to stop the Japanese whaling fleet, who've committed to another season of killing whales in international waters.

"We're trying to open up the dialogue to find out why whaling continues when there's no reason for it and it's inhumane tactics anymore," said Peter Brown, longest serving SSCS crew member and director of the new film, CONFESSIONS OF AN ECO-TERRORIST that chronicles over 30 years of SSCS campaigns and will be theatrically released this fall. "Whale meat is so high in heavy metal contaminants that Pal Wiehe, Health Advisor of the Faeroe Islands, has recommended that the population not consume any of it.," he continued.
