Micah 7:7, 18-19 But as for me, I will look to the Lord; I will wait for the God of my salvation; my God will hear me. ... Who is a God like you, pardoning iniquity and passing over transgression for the remnant of his inheritance? He does not retain his anger forever, because he delights in steadfast love. He will again have compassion on us; he will tread our iniquities underfoot. You will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea.

WHO IS LIKE THE LORD?

A short message from a short book ... the prophet Micah.

Micah was a man from the country, from the rich farmland of Moresheth in Gath. We know very little about him save that he was called and sent by Jehovah to speak to Israelites who lived in both Judah and Israel, in both the city and the country. He was sent to speak to kings and noblemen, to the middle class and to peasants.

Micah was sent by God with a message for both the unfaithful and the faithful.

God's patience and mercy have limits. People cannot wantonly continue to reject God and his Word and not face consequences. The LORD God may indeed choose to bring judgment upon this nation and that judgment may affect us and our children.

Please don't misunderstand me. I'm not foretelling the fall of the United States, I'm only pointing out what happens when people reject God and His Word, the LORD and His Christ.

However, we may also be certain of God's mercy and forgiveness in the darkest of days. He will have compassion on His faithful people -- not only in delivering from earthly dangers, but in delivering us from the consequences of our sins and granting us eternal life in Christ.

We find comfort for dark days in the word of God taken from the Prophet Micah. We are assured that our God will hear our prayer. We are assured that though the LORD God may chastise, He will lift us up and defend us and we will be vindicated. We will be led to praise the LORD with Micah and the faithful in Israel, and ask, "Who is like the LORD?"
