MARY F. BURNS
The Spoils of Avalon and Isaac & Ishmael
Wednesday, November 12 at 7 PM
Mary F. Burns will be reading from each of her two new novels!
The Spoils of Avalon is the first volume in her new John Singer Sargent/Violet Paget mystery series. The death of a humble clergyman in 1877 leads amateur sleuths Violet Paget and John Singer Sargent into a medieval world of saints and kings (including the legendary Arthur) as they follow a trail of relics and antiquities lost since the destruction of Glastonbury Abbey in 1539.
In Isaac & Ishmael, Burns brings to human scale the legends and mythic dimensions of Abraham and Sarah, their sons Isaac and Ishmael, and Isaac and Rebecca’s twin sons Esau and Jacob. Readers will experience their struggles, competition, betrayals and loves — and Yahweh, the uncanny, irascible, mischievous, bargaining God who participated in the life of a new people and compelled them to a new way of being human.
