In the picture is Brian Smith, Past District Deputy Grand Master of the District of Calgary, Canada proudly wearing his West Wales Provincial tie, presented to him by W Bro John Watson when he visitied him in September this year. Brian and John have talked over the internet for about 10 years, but this was the first time that they had met. John enjoyed a grand tour of Calgary followed by a pleasant meal and "a couple of drinks!"

Provincial Church Service
|
The Province of West Wales marked the bi-centenary of Supreme Grand Chapter by holding a Provincial Royal Arch Church Service in St Katherine’s and St Peter’s Church, Milford Haven, on Sunday 20th October 2013.
The Grand Superintendent, Excellent Companion Eric Mock was escorted in to the packed Church by a large number of Supreme Grand Chapter and Provincial Grand Chapter Officers.
The service was taken by the Deputy Grand Superintendent, Excellent Companion Reverend J. Keith Davies. The Lessons were read by The Grand Superintendent and Provincial Second Grand Principal, Excellent Companion, Dr Bryn W. Barton.
The collection raised £1000 for the church and the refreshments in the church hall afterwards were provided by the companions and brethren of Milford Haven and their ladies (mainly the ladies!) The Grand Superintendent would like to convey his thanks to all who contributed to a most successful day!!

On 29th October 2013 a meeting was held to discuss the activities and future shape of the Communication, Awareness & Development Team, usually known as CAD. The meeting was chaired by the Provincial Grand Master, and was attended by over 30 brethren representing the lodges in the Province.
Following a free and lively discussion it was apparent that everyone agreed that the introduction of a Provincial Grand Mentor and a Provincial Grand Orator, as well as the new lodge office of Mentor, had eroded the effectiveness of CAD to such a degree that it was no longer realistic to keep it in existence.
It was therefore decided that as of 29th October 2013, the CAD team will cease to exist. The work of mentoring and giving talks in lodges will be covered by the Provincial Grand Mentor and Provincial Grand Orator respectively, and any other Masonic Education needs will be dealt with by a small team initially consisting of those two officers, the Assistant Provincial Grand Master and one other, yet to be appointed.
The CAD team has existed for over 20 years in one form or another, and has had many very keen brethren amongst its membership. They have worked hard for the benefit of all Freemasons in the Province, and we owe them a debt of gratitude. We thank them all.
If any brother, lodge or chapter identifies a need for a seminar, group meeting, focus group, demonstration or any similar event that only the Province (rather than the lodge itself) should supply please contact the Assistant Provincial Grand Master at apgm@westwalesmason.com

The Richard Warburton Lodge
|
The Richard Warburton Lodge was formed principally for the furtherance of fraternal relations between those Brethren who hold or have held office in secretarial roles, with a view of improving the proficiency and knowledge of the Secretariat within the Province of West Wales. This year's Secretariat meeting is on Friday 8th November at 6.30pm, in the Masonic Hall, Fishguard. All secretaries, scribes and their assistants are urged to attend the meeting and everyone will receive a very warm welcome (and maybe a job!). There will be the opportunity for informal discussions as well as a presentation by the Provincial Grand Secretary. The Provincial Assistant Grand Secretary will also be giving a presentation about 21st Century Communications and with free food too, this is definitely a date for your diary!!!

The first of the year's Provincial Golf Days was held on Friday 4th, October 2013 at the Derllys Court Golf Club in Bancefelin, Carmarthen. As the golfers gathered to eat the necessary bacon rolls the drizzle outside eased and by the time the last golfers went out the sun was shining! The winner of the individual competition was golfing legend W Bro Chris Harding, pictured on the right with W Bro Mike Bradney handing over what looks like a sizeable cheque (as if!) Loyal Welsh Lodge are just ahead of Tenby in the points competition. You can read the full report here.

W Bro Roy Leett is a man of many talents. As well as spending many hours on his duties as Provincial Grand Almoner he is also in the process of creating a Provincial Wall Calendar and he needs our help! If you have (or could take) a reasonable photo of your Lodge building, please forward it to asec@westwalesmason.com and Roy will do the rest!
