Psalm 2:2-4 The kings of the earth take their stand and the rulers gather together against the LORD and against his Anointed One. "Let us break their chains," they say, "and throw off their fetters." The One enthroned in heaven laughs; the LORD scoffs at them.
THE LAST LAUGH
Sometimes it's frustrating for us as Christians to see so much anti-Christian sentiment all around. It seems like everyone makes fun of Christ. From the television and radio, from the newspapers and best selling books, so many try to make a fool of Jesus. Worst of all, people in positions of authority such as politicians and judges so often despise the Lord unless it suits some selfish purpose for them to put on a show of religion every now and then. From the "kings of the earth" come some of the most virulent opposition to the Savior.
Can God really be mocked this way? Can the wicked really trample His Son to nothing like this? The answer is clear from the second Psalm. "The One enthroned in heaven laughs." The Heavenly Father simply scoffs at the attempts of fallen humanity to erase the name of Jesus. He ridicules those who have hardened their hearts to the truth. He hears the empty talk and the useless writings and the ignorant babble of the philosophers and He laughs. To Him it is nothing. From heaven He looks and He knows that Jesus lives and rules at His right hand -- and there is nothing anyone down below can do about it.
What a lift this news can give to your hearts in these last days! For the Father who laughs is also the Father who loves -- who loves you with an everlasting love; who gave His dearest Treasure into death to grant you passage into life. Whatever the world may say about Him, He will emerge victorious and the scornful will be silenced. He is the one who says, "You are mine." Thus you too can claim victory.
