Wednesday 12 July

On 12 July, we welcome Tracey Lund to Unit 13, when she will be presenting her talk Wildlife Photography - Part 1.

This talk covers the following - Japan, Finland, Greece, Iceland, Camargue, Captive and UK - In each talk Tracey will show a selection of images from the areas mentioned as well as some stories/experiences she have encountered. Tracey will answer any questions during/after the presentation.

A little bit about Tracey:

Tracey is an International award-winning photographer from England who specialises in Wildlife. Her passion for wildlife has taken her to magical places and this passion is easy to see in her images. She’s had exceptional international success too, including:

  • World Photographic Cup – ‘Silver’ & ‘Best in Nation’
  • SINWP Wildlife Photographer of the Year
  • MPA Wildlife Photographer of the Year
  • Cosmos Awards Wildlife & Animal Photographer of the Year
and many more too!

Tracey regularly hosts talks within the photography community, either in-person or via zoom, around her vast experience with Wildlife Photography.

DI Group
DI Group (zoom) Meeting – Monday 10 July, 7.30 pm

Last month we had another full evening of presentations with a variety of images.

Allan Jones revisited some of his old images edited with the new version of Pure Raw 5 software which has been upgraded significantly. As an example, he showed the power of Raw Editor to remove noise almost completely and therefore effectively increasing the ability to take photos in even lower light conditions.

Derwood Pamphilon’s presentation again had a variety of images from models underwater to dance images which he does so well. A short video of how the underwater shots are taken gave a fascinating glimpse of how it is all done in the ‘underwater studio’ in a specially designed tank. Another short video of his portraits of models in action showed the coordination of the photographer, model and members of the supporting group in creating dynamic images. His dance images taken in Sadler's Wells theatre have the artistic quality achieved with a lot of experience. Two images which stayed in my mind were one of unusual composition and another where the dancers seemed to defy gravity.

A couple of images by Derwood
Robin Mudge who has joined BPS recently and is a well accomplished photographer, showed a few of his images from his self-published book of industrial landscapes taken on a train journey from Washington to New York. He made the point that these books are exhibitions in your hands and that images should be printed and published rather than left on the hard drives of our computers and perhaps forgotten.

David Alderson had visited the ‘Dig for Victory’ re-enactment which has returned after being suspended for a couple of years. I am sure we will be seeing more of those images in the club over next year.

Anita Fullerton had been experimenting further with ICM (intentional camera movement) and again I am sure we will see more of her images, a few competition winners perhaps.

The next DI group meeting is on Monday 10 July. The meeting is open to all BPS members. Please feel free to share your images with fellow members. It’s an opportunity to get a second opinion at the DI meeting from your fellow members or you might just enjoy showing off your work and experiments in an informal atmosphere. You are free to ask questions on digital imaging.

When you are ready, please email your images for presentation to reach me by 6pm-ish  Sunday 9 July. Images: JPG format, sRGB colour space, 1600 x 1200 pixels (same as competitions but not strict). If you wish to show them in a specific order, please prefix filenames with 01, 02, 03 etc. Email attachment size - max 20Mb per email, as many as necessary. You may also use WeTransfer or Dropbox if convenient, but I am not equipped to receive by direct transfers from Google or Apple Mac systems.

Trumpet Blowers' Corner
Well done to Jay Hallsworth on recently gaining a couple of distinctions, EFIAP and EPSA distinctions from FIAP and PSA respectively.
Salon acceptances: Contrary to popular belief, I do not possess psychic powers and need you to tell me if you've had successes. If you want to blow your own trumpet (or someone else's), then this is the place to do it. Please let me know and I'll include details in a future issue.

Market Place
If you have any photographic items for sale, drop me a line and I'll include it in the next newsletter. Please make sure that you provide contact details, price and full description of the sale items (pictures always help).

IMPORTANT: Personal Detail Changes
Please don't forget that if you change your address (home or email), or gain additional photographic distinctions, it would be appreciated if you could let the Membership Secretary know so that she can keep her records up to date, this will also ensure that you continue to receive your newsletters - please email all changes to membership@bristolphoto.org.uk

The distinctions we have on record are those shown at the top of this newsletter, please remember, if you don't tell us we can't possibly know!

DO NOT REPLY TO THE NEWSLETTER.
