Hello Firstname

Wednesday 24 July
Next week we welcome Heidi Stewart who will be presenting her talk - My Journey So Far. I'm afraid that I have no details on the content of her talk as she hasn't replied to my emails requesting information & photos. All I can do is to point you in the direction of her website and hope that this is sufficient to whet your appetite: heidistewartphotography.weebly.com

However, I can copy what Sodbury & Yate wrote about her talk, which she gave earlier this year, together with a couple of the images from that report:

We were privileged to receive a visit from Heidi & Alex Stewart. This evening it was Heidi’s turn to give the talk and what a talk it was. Heidi has a very engaging personality and is very open and honest about her photography. Having started her ‘serious’ photography within the last ten years, she found it a great help in her development to join her local camera club (Gwynver CC) and hasn’t looked back since.
Heidi will be either extremely thorough in her preparation for a photographic sortie (checking weather/tide reports and forecasts) or completely instinctive and just get up and go. In the latter case that will involve a location she had previously reconnoitered, mostly coastal locations but she is not averse to going further afield whenever possible (Lake District, Cornwall & North Devon for example).
Heidi stressed the importance of having a go and not to be tied down by convention and rules for “rules are there to be bent”!

Vote For Steve!
In issue 343 the newsletter carried an item about Steve Field and his success in the 2019 EISA Maestro competition. This showed Steve as having won the UK round of this international competition. Things have now moved on and he is now in the fight for the overall international title. To win this he needs your support, so please follow this link and place your vote. A warning, the page you are taken to may be a bit slow to appear, so please be patient.

PAGB Inter-Club PDI Competition at Warwick
Last weekend 10 BPS members travelled up the M5 & M42 to support the Society in the annual PAGB Interclub Projected Image Competition. Sadly, our support was not enough to prevent somewhat of a disaster as far as BPS scores and final position were concerned.
Initially all clubs show 2 rounds of 8 images which are marked by a panel of 3 judges. The top clubs with the top 6 scores go on to fight for the overall championship; the remaining clubs battle it out for the Plate.

Below are the final results:

Advanced Warning - Evening Outing 31 July
The annual BPS outing takes place this year on 31 July. Mike Hall has managed to get the club a private viewing session of house and grounds at KINGS WESTON HOUSE  kingswestonhouse.co.uk. There are also great views of the estuary and bridges and we'll be at the right place at right time to get some good sun-down pictures.
Meet for 7.00pm to finish by 9.00pm.

Broken Printer
I have received the following plea for help from BPS member, Graham Baines. If you can help, please contact him directly at davidgrahamdenham@gmail.com

Both my printers have ceased to function at the same time.  I propose to buy a new printer shortly but I need to get one of my existing printers repaired because a new printer is unlikely to be compatible with my old Mac G4 computer (which still holds most of my personal data).

I have identified almost 20 firms in the Bristol area which undertake printer repairs, though some will not touch domestic models, such as my Brother HL 5240 laser printer and my Epson Stylus Photo 2400 inkjet printer.

It is difficult to select a firm on the basis of their websites and the rates charged relate more to businesses than individuals, so it is very much a case of buying an expensive pig in a poke. Accordingly, I am wondering whether any member of the BPS has ever used a Bristol firm to repair a printer or has any knowledge of any of the local firms which might be helpful?

Best wishes,
Graham

Photography Course
Last week I asked if you could spread the word about the photography course, both by word of mouth and by social media. Below is a picture advertising the course which you might like to download by clicking on the picture and include in your Facebook (other social media sites are available) page. Alternatively you could download and print the poster and display it in places local to you.

Please remember, that the low cost of your BPS subscription can only remain that way for as long as we continue to get a good attendance (and therefore income) on the course. We would ask, therefore, that as many members as possible help to publicise the course.

Trumpet Blower's Corner
Salon acceptances: BPS photographers are now achieving large numbers of salon acceptances and constraints on time and space mean we can't include them all. So please only advise of awards or other milestones.

Contrary to popular belief, I do not possess psychic powers and need you to tell me if you've had successes. If you want to blow your own trumpet (or someone else's), then this is the place to do it. Please let me know and I'll include details in a future issue.
