Genesis 3:9 Where are you?
KEY QUESTIONS FOR A NEW YEAR (1)
"Where are you?" This is the first question asked by God in the Bible. God asked the question right after Adam and Eve had disobeyed Him, doing the one thing He told them not to do. Of course, God knew exactly where they were. The LORD asked the question for their benefit. It was as if to say, "Where are you at in your love for Me? Why are you hiding from Me? Has something changed in the way you feel about Me?"
God also knew exactly what was going on their hearts and He was giving them opportunity to confess. The question shows the heart of God. Even though Adam and Eve had sided with Satan and turned their backs on Him, the LORD still loved them. Where are you? Why are you running away from Me? Don't you know I still care about you and want you close by My side?
So where are you? Where are you at this moment in your life and in your relationship with God? Have you been letting other things lately come between the two of you? Is your love for Him not quite what it used to be? Are their things you've been trying to hide from Him-- certain sins, a less than dedicated heart, doubts about His love for you?
Don't you know by now that you can't hide anything from God? So search your heart. Be honest. Give your sins to God. Don't be afraid. He will forgive whatever you've been trying to hide. His love for you hasn't changed.
Where are you? Well, where do you need to be once again this year? Don't you need to be standing with a penitent heart beneath His cross where He won't fail to enfold you in His arms with everlasting love?
