PALESTINE PRESIDENT'S ENVOY MEETS SA PRESIDENT, DISCUSSES SUPPORT FOR DOWNGRADE OF ISRAEL EMBASSY
Senior Palestinian official, Dr Nabeel Shaath, was in South Africa last week where he met with President Jacob Zuma and the ANC's International Relations Sub-Committee. Shaath also addressed a government event in Pretoria with former International Criminal Court (ICC) judge and United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Judge Navi Pillay (who, in her presentation, spoke in full support of the BDS boycott of Israel movement).

On Shaath’s arrival to the country, his first meeting was with BDS South Africa where he received a detailed briefing on various issues including the ANC's recommendation to immediately and unconditionally downgrade the SA Embassy in Tel Aviv.

Shaath, who is Chief Political Advisor to the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and was representing his President on the trip, expressed full support for the downgrade which is expected to be ratified at the upcoming ANC elective congress next week. Click here to watch Shaath's video message in support of downgrading the SA Embassy in Israel.

Shaath is a member of the Central Committee of the Palestinian political party, Fateh, and a senior leader of the Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO).

Dr Nabeel Shaath also dismissed the false claim being made by some DIRCO officials that the SA Embassy in Ramallah will be negatively affected when SA downgrades its embassy in Tel Aviv. Dr Shaath noted that when Venezuela decided to break diplomatic relations with Israel, their representative office in Ramallah was not affected. “Israel does not want a total disruption of relations with South Africa,” Shaath said. MANDELA'S GRANDSON MEETS PALESTINIAN PRESIDENT AND AFFIRMS SUPPORT FOR ANC SEVERING OF DIPLOMATIC TIES

Nelson Mandela's grandson, Nkosi Zwelivelile Mandela MP, on a recent trip to Palestine, met with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas where he conveyed the support of ANC branches for the severing of diplomatic ties with Israel and the immeidate and unconditional downgrade of the SA Embassy in Tel Aviv.

Following his meeting Mandela explained: "President Abbas applauded South Africa for its brotherly support...we emphasised to President Abbas the role South Africa played in the cancellation of the First Africa Israeli Conference in Togo and the importance to deepen our lobbying efforts in SADC and Africa as a whole. This is the only way we can counter Apartheid Israel's chequebook diplomacy in Africa and ensure that we are not co-opted into supporting Apartheid Israel's brutality and perpetuation of the war on Palestinian sovereignty...We assured President Abbas that we would do all in our ability to welcome a strong Palestinian delegation to attend the ANC National General Conference in December 2017 where we will be championing an ANC Resolution to cut all diplomatic ties with Israel." FAILURE BY DIRCO OFFICIALS TO TAKE ACTION FOLLOWING INSULT BY ISRAELI DIPLOMAT AGAINST CHIEF MANDELA (MP)

During his trip Chief Mandla Mandela condemned Israel's oppression of the indigenous Palestinians calling it the "worst form of Apartheid". Click here.

Israeli
Ministry of Foreign Affairs diplomat and former Ambassador to South Africa, Arthur Lenk, responded to Chief Mandla Mandela by publicly insulting him saying: "Does this guy bring *anything* to table other than famous last name? No, he doesn't." Chief Mandla Mandela is a senior deployee of the ANC in Parliament serving in the National Assembly, a Parliamentary Portfolio Committee Whip as well as a traditional leader.

Officials at South Africa's Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) have (again) failed to take any action against Israel for yet another insult by the regime.

Earlier this year the Israeli Embassy in SA issued an unprecedented public attack on South Africa's governing party, the ANC, with no consequences from DIRCO officials. Click here.
