1 Corinthians 15:51-52 Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed--in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
THE LAST TRUMPET
Our Lord Jesus spoke on a number of occasions concerning His second coming. He offered his disciples a number of signs of His second coming, all of which have occurred. There is no doubt that we are in the last days before the Last Judgment.
The Spirit of God also speaks of the last trumpet. The Spirit of God reveals through the Apostle Paul that the Last Judgment will be preceded by the sounding of "the last trumpet." So even as the sounding of a trumpet once served as a sign to an army to proceed forward, so the sounding of the last trumpet and the appearance of Christ on the clouds of heaven with the holy angel army will mark the coming of the Last Judgment.
Furthermore, it is the "sounding of the trumpet" that makes clear that the words found in 1 Thessalonians 4 speak not of some "secret return" of the Savior (of which neither He nor the Prophets said a word) but of the beginning of the Last Judgment.
We need to be prepared for that day before the trumpet sounds. It is for this reason that we, moved by the Spirit, take the Lord's encouragement to heart and gather together for worship, for our soul's sake because we see from the signs that "the Day is approaching" (cf. Hebrews 10:23-25).
If you hear the clear peal of a trumpet sounding forth in your music today, take a moment to pray the Lord Christ and meditate upon His Word that you may be prepared for the last trumpet.
