Look Out for Tropicalfete 2015 for New York Labor Day Carnival as we are Going Green on the Road calling awareness to the Movement of Saving the Planet


Trinidad & Tobago, Dominica, Haiti, Guadeloupe, St. Martin, Cuba, Martinique, Aruba, Bonaire,Curaçao,  celebrate a pre-Lenten festival called carnival that involves parties, pageant, music and competitions which climaxes with two days of street parade. The two days of parade take place on Carnival Monday and Mardi Gras where brilliantly colored costumed revelers jump and dance to sweet calypso, soca and steel pan music. After the two days of revelry, it is Ash Wednesday and all the parties and dance are toned down until the Lenten season is over. During the months leading to the Carnival Monday and Tuesday, patrons are treated to a variety of carnival oriented events such as parties, Carnival Queen Pageants, King and Queen of the bands, Kiddies carnival, calypso tents leading to the Calypso Monarch finals, Steel pan competitions, Power and Groovy Soca Monarchs. The2015 result of the Trinidad and Tobago carnival activities - The 2015 Chutney Soca Monarch and Traditional Monarch champions Rikki Jai (Samraj Jaimungal) and Ravi B (Ravi Bissambhar)       In the Schools National Chutney Soca Monarch Aaron Duncan retained his title for a third time, however, with a total of 261 points, Duncan who is a student of Trinity Junior School had to share the title with Christian Mendez from Bishop Anstey Junior.  The Secondary School category was won by Suraj Ramdass Singh from San Fernando East Secondary. Machel Montano captured the Power Soca Monarch crown with the tune “Like Ah Boss”, Neil Iwer George placed second with the tune ”Play D Mas” and first time competitor, Nikki Crosby came in third position with the tune “Granny.”  The Groovy Soca Monarch crown was won by Olajunti Yearwood with his very popular tune “Ola”, Farmer Nappy came in second with the tune “My House” and in third place was Antiguan, Ricardo Drue with “Vagabond.”

The defending Calypso Monarch, Roderick “Chucky” Gordon defended his title successfully with his songs – “The Rose” and “I Believe.”  In second place was Devon Seale with his songs “My Humble Plea” and “Soul Judges” and Karene Asche came in the third position with her songs “Fix the Gap" and “Every Knee Shall Bow.”  Karene Asche also won the first ever National Nation Building Calypso Monarch in the Kaisorama which took place at the Queen's Park Savannah on February 13, 2015, Devon Seale and Heather Mac Intosh were also winners.   Kurt Allen came second with "Selfie T&T" while Brian London's "Wishful" got him the third position.  

The Top three positions for King of the carnival went to these three individuals:

  1. Roland St George – “Athwaje”
  2. Ted Eustace – “Samaranga: D Wolf Bat”
  3. Fareid Cravalho - "Death Desolation Despair: Keeper Of Souls”

The top three Queens of carnival:

  1. Stephanie Kanhai - "The Sweet Waters Of Africa”
  2. Roxanne Omalo - "The Phantom Queen”
  3. Jonell Dick - "Andromeda Mystical Queen”

In the Tobago House of Assembly (THA) Pan Champions competition, the large band results were as follows:  1st place - NGC Steel Xplosion, 2nd place - Petrotrin Katzenjammers and 3rd place - NLCB Bucconeers.
In the small Steel band category, the top three places were: 1st place – Our Boys, 2nd place – C&B Crown Cordaans and the 3rd place went to Tobago Pan-thers.
The single pan bands top three winners were:  1st place – Metro Stars, 2nd place – New Vision and 3rd place – Hope Pan Groovers.
In the Pan Trinbago Panorama, in the Large Conventional Band category, the top three Bands were:  1st place - All Stars, 2nd place - Phase 2 and in 3rd place was Exodus.
In the Medium Convectional Band 1st place went to Pan Elders, 2nd place Bucconeers and Steel Xplosion copped the 3rd position.
In the Small Pan Band category, in 1st - position Arima Golden Symphony, 2nd – Supernovas and 3rd was
Crescendoes Musicale.

In the Single Pan Band category in 1st position - San Juan East Side Symphony, 2nd - Marsicans and
Trinidad East Side Symphony placed 3rd.

The Road March title was captured by Machel Montano with his song “Like a Boss”, which played 390 times, making that his seventh Road March crown. Machel’s song “Erupt” was second and played 37 times and Groovy Soca Monarch Olatunji Yearwood placed third as his song “Ola” was played 22 times.
 
Carriacou and Petite Martinique also celebrated their colorful and exciting carnival activities prior to the start of the Lenten season and here are the results of some the activities.  Miss Derrona Farray was crowned Miss Carriacou Carnival Queen 2015, in second place was Miss Ria Thomas and Miss Kentisha McGillvary placed third.  Derrona Farray was also copped Best Platform/Introduction, Best evening wear and best interview, Ria Thomas copped Best talent and Best costume was awarded to Kentisha McGillvary.
Mozo (Garvin Moses) captured the 2015 Carriacou and Petite Martinique Groovy Monarch crown with the song entitled “One Life”, Gold’n (Matthew Thomas) performed the song “Leh go” and he came in second place while Shanda (Nashander Charles) came in third with the song “Dance the Night Away.”
Kavon (Kavon Roberts) was crowned the 2015 Carriacou and Petite Martinique Calypso Monarch with the tune, “The Need for Love”; Shanda (Nashander Charles) came in second with the tune, “We in Crisis” and Leftist (Anderson Matheson) who sang “Too much Politics” came third.
The 2015 Soca Monarch for Carriacou and Petite Martinique was Brendon McKie (Killa B) who sang Camouflage, in second position was Jermone Adams (Hunter HD) with his song “Outta Space” and in third position was Andrew E Dick (Big Bad Buster) with the tune “Come for Mas.”
 Dominica’s 2015 Carnival Queen was the stunningMiss Odessa Elie. Dominica also had Goodwill Primary School Carnival Princess Show and Charisse Piper was the winner of Goodwill Primary School Carnival Princess Show.  Alliyah Daniel took the 1st runner-up position and second runner-up is Urbi Richards. The third runner-up position went to Cathiana Nicolas and the 4th runner was Danika Bernard.
 Lord Karessah won the crown with His songs – “Call Me Name” and “Flush It”, Dice came in the first runner up position, followed by Daddy Chess and Jama B.
Sadly and unfortunately an accident happened during Haiti’s carnival parade on February 17. Sixteen people were confirmed dead and 78 others injured. The authorities cancelled carnival activities and declared three days of national mourning.
