10/7/22

Today, we had our first mini-assembly. We are trying to do something a little different this year to make school a little more fun. The mini assemblies allow us to recognize groups for their commitment to FHS and their team. Today, we recognized the Marching Band, Girl's Golf and the Bass Club. We did a few cheers and had a teacher skit about fishing. The highlight was when Mr. Tank ate a worm. It was cringy!

Our math teachers are begging their students to spend a few minutes each night reviewing their notes. Even 10 minutes a night studying will dramatically improve their understanding and almost certainly improve their grade. If your student comes home and says, "I don't have any homework," like mine occasionally does, you can always point them to their math notes.

Like the rest of the country, we continue to battle vapes in school. While I am concerned that the student has to go through the legal system when caught, I am more concerned about what they are doing to their bodies. Bootleg vape cartridges are not regulated and come in from foreign countries. That means that they could be filled with anything, including metals (lead), acetone, terpenes, pesticides, and a host of other lung-destroying ingredients, all of which are covered with flavors such as strawberry-banana. Who often gets sold the fake cartridges? Teenagers. We've also seen an increase in THC pens which are much more powerful than single joints. Both vapes and THC pens are readily available either over the internet or on the secondary market (from adults who are doubling the price). Please, please, please talk to your student about your expectations concerning vapes and drug usage. They do listen even if they act like they aren't.

Art class did some "garbage can wood fire pottery" this week. It looks amazing. We have some on display in the office. Come and take a look.

Have a great weekend!

Be Well,
