Psalm 107:8 Oh, that men would give thanks to the LORD for His goodness, And for His wonderful works to the children of men!
OH THAT MEN WOULD ... GIVE THANKS TO THE LORD!
HAPPY THANKSGIVING! HAPPY THANKSGIVING DAY! Today is the day that many in America will be thankful for turkey and stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, cranberry sauce and all the fixings. Today is the day we give thanks for friends and family. Today is the day that we express our thanks to God for the blessings that we enjoy in this country-- freedom to worship the Triune God of the Bible without fear of persecution.
Oh, that human beings would thank the LORD for His goodness!
Wait-- isn't that what everyone in our country is doing today? If only! There are many gods worshiped in our country who are thanked today. There is "so-called science" which sets out to deceive the masses into thinking that this world and universe is just an accident and not something formed by the word of the Creator. Many will cut short their "Thanksgiving Celebration" to head out to shop, to worship at the altar of the "Almighty Dollar." Still others will give thanks to a god of their own making, a god who doesn't have standards of right and wrong, but accepts everyone no matter how wicked.
Few will thank the LORD, the one true triune God, for His goodness, but by God's grace we will be among that select few!
Let us rejoice this day because we know the LORD God, and more importantly He knows us and loves us. Let us rejoice this day because the LORD God called us to faith in His Son and by the working of the Holy Spirit through the Word has "turned on the lights" for us, enlightening heart and mind. Let us rejoice that the only real God in the universe has turned us from skipping merrily down the wide road that leads to destruction and has set us on the narrow road that leads to life (cf. Matthew 7:13-14).
May the Spirit of God make us bold witnesses of Christ, so that others may join us to give thanks to the LORD for His goodness and for His wonderful works to the children of men!
