Psalms 19:7, 10 The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul. The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple. They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold; they are sweeter than honey, than honey from the comb.

THE BIBLE'S TEACHINGS TASTE SWEET BECAUSE THEY ARE TRUE

The Bible is the Word of God. Everything written in on its pages is true. It contains no errors. It gives 100% dependable information about what God did to save us and how He would have us glorify Him in our lives as His children. That is the belief of every Christian. But how do we know it? Is there scientific evidence we can point to, to establish the Bible’s veracity? No, rather, it is something we know to be true only because of the faith the Holy Spirit has graciously planted in our hearts.

But though there be no tangible proof of the Bible's veracity, there are some things which serve to back up what we already know to be true as Christians. Consider: 1) Despite the fact that the Bible was written by forty men over a period of sixteen centuries on a subject about which there is more disagreement than any other (religion), yet amazingly there's a single theme that runs through the Bible like a golden thread upon which all the authors agree: Jesus is the universal Savior. 2) No book has been more bitterly attacked than the Bible. Yet it remains on the world's best seller list year after year. 3) And did you ever hear someone say: I was a godless man of the world till I began reading Shakespeare (or some other human writing), then I became a changed person? No way. The Bible, on the other hand, has radically transformed countless millions (think Nicodemus, think Saul of Tarsus, think you and me). We've been changed by the Word of God into new creatures in Christ who love Him and serve Him.

But the feature of Scripture that, perhaps more than any other, substantiates that it is God's infallible Word: Of the 300+ Old Testament prophecies about the Messiah, each was fulfilled in a single Person: Jesus of Nazareth.

We have a sure prophetic Word By inspiration of the Lord;
And though assailed on every hand, Jehovah's Word shall ever stand.

Lo, what the Word in times of old Of future days and deeds foretold
Is all fulfilled while ages roll, As traced on the prophetic scroll.

Abiding, steadfast, firm, and sure, The teachings of the Word endure.
Blest he who trusts this steadfast Word; His anchor holds in Christ, the Lord.
(The Lutheran Hymnal 290:1, 3, 4)
