Volunteer Spotlight: Julissa Gutierrez
DOVIA, Directors of Volunteers in Agencies is hosting their annual Volunteer Recognition Celebration to honor the star volunteers in our community. L.A. Works will be proud to recognize Julissa Gutiérrez, who has been volunteering with us for the past three years, at the DOVIA event. Julissa's love for kids and caring nature made her a natural leader for the Fun With Kids at Angel Guardian opportunity. Her ability to mobilize volunteers and engage the kids allows her to lead successfully and create a fun and meaningful volunteer experience for everyone.

Looking Back: United We Stand
2001 Interfaith Project
Just a month after September 11, 2001, hundreds of volunteers spent their Sunday painting 74 murals across the campus of Daniel Webster Middle School. The L.A. Works event brought together volunteers of Christian, Muslim, Bahai, Jewish, Quaker and Sikh faiths to enliven the school in response to the Sept. 11 attacks. At 1:30, volunteers stopped working for a 20-minute interfaith service.
Looking Forward: 2011 Tribute Event
This year, on the 10th anniversary of the tragic event, volunteers will once again commemorate the lives and memories of the victims and heroes of 9/11 through civic dialogue and service. Hundreds of veterans and their families, corporate volunteers and community members will come together to revitalize and organize an airplane hanger into a welcoming space for Tomorrow’s Aeronautical Museum.
