Hello, Firstname

Wednesday 11 November

Next Wednesday, 11 November, we are pleased to welcome Chris Hilton LRPS to our screens when he will present his talk: Contemporary Travel Photography.
In his words "It’s not about sunsets, selfies or social media ‘likes’. It’s not about those super saturated, ultra-crisp looking landscapes. It’s not about that picture of you so close to the edge of the cliff, canyon or crocodiles’ mouth that you risk life or limb ... it’s about something else ..."

Taken from a review of the talk by another local club:
For me, as a member of the audience, the icing on the cake was that Chris has a very entertaining style of presenting and frequently had us laughing. So, the perfect club evening – I learnt something as was greatly entertained.

The talk starts at 19:30hrs but will be open from 19:15hrs.

FIAP World Cup

Back in issue 407, Mike Martin put out the following plea. To date, his request has been met with a resounding lack of interest, so if you can help Mike please let him know as soon as possible as the closing date is getting ever closer.

We have been invited to take part in the FIAP World Cup for Clubs. This competition requires submission of 20 high resolution images (2400px min/3500px max on long edge), with each photographer submitting no more than 2 images.... it follows we’d need at least 10 different contributors.
Last year Wigan 10, Rolls Royce Derby, Catchlight CC, Chorley and Smethwick all featured in the top 10, so perhaps it's time we tried to join them?  Closing date beginning of December, so time is ticking on.

Please get involved.... Many of you have many excellent images languishing on hard drives, etc, that may not have been entered into competitions. Mike can only select images from those that he has copies of, so he is asking every one to select 3-5 images that you feel are truly your best works, so he can expand his pool of potential entries.
Please send smaller (1200x1600px) copies initially, to mike_martin@blueyonder.co.uk – obviously nothing will get used without first seeking permission (and for this, requesting a high resolution copy).

Make Money For BPS Every Time You Shop On Amazon!
Now we're all in lockdown again, the thought of on-line Christmas shopping must be looming large in many members' minds. It's worth remembering that if you so wish, each and every one of you can support BPS with every purchase you make on Amazon by using Amazon Smile. Click on the link below – then it’s self-explanatory.
Shopping using Smile is no different to your normal Amazon shopping and costs you nothing, it's just that you need to tell it that you wish to use Smile and then we get some pennies!

Something to Watch
I've received the following from club member Sean d'Rozario who thought that some members might like to tune into this Zoom presentation being given by ShutterBugs
ShutterBugs Covid Lockdown 2 (Session 1)
Hi all
Oh dear we're at this point again but let's treat it as an opportunity not a crisis! So many of you gave me such positive feedback for the free weekly sessions during the first lockdown I thought it would be rude not to offer you some more during this second lockdown. They may not be every week as I'm actually quite busy (my Bristol Folk House courses had started last term however they've moved online to Zoom!)
Topic: "What Makes an image Great, What Makes an image Mediocre"
  • This first Zoom session will be on Tuesday 10th November (3pm to 4.30pm)
  • You must've shot many images since the first lockdown. Please get some images ready on your desktop to share during the session or email them to me: info@shutter-bugs.co.uk
  • Consider buying me a coffee after the session: Ko-fi.com/shutterbugs
  • Link to: Zoom info sheet

Cheers for now, see you in the Zoom room!
